Wide games by location....?
On our canal trip, we're stopping at a variety of locations.... which is your best wide game for each of...
- forest - field (grass) - field of stubble - scrub - hill - unfamiliar village

wide games tend to operate under one basic principle as far as i can tell
take stuff from A to B - other team try to beat you up in the middle take stuff from B to A - you try to beat the other team up in the middle you can glam it up as much as you like but it all comes down to that... doesn't it? |

- observe but not interfere... intelligence gathering games - simply race, without contact, to reach a goal, complete a course - race for a limited combination of resources And either way, different games emphasize different things - tracking - strategy - stealth - speed - teamwork - local knowledge - problem solving Maybe you've been playing the wrong games? :-) |

A simple but fun game I recently saw (on holiday) which could be adapted to pretty much any venue as long as you don't mind getting it wet is -
2 teams sat one behind the other in lines all facing toward the front. The only exception is the person at the back of the line who faces toward the back so he is back to back with the second last person. Sitting in chairs is preferrable but not essential. In front of each line is a supply of water - large bucket, pool, reservior, canal, river. At the back of each line is an empty bucket with an object that'll float in the bottom. Each team is given a towel (or similar item). The person at the front soaks it in the water with the towel being passed back over the head to the person behind. The last person squeezes the water out then the towel goes back over head to the person behind. This continues until the floating object falls out the bucket. No throwing the towel, missing people out, or people getting off their seats. Time penalties otherwise with a dripping soaking towel held over the offenders head. in forest i like the classic capture the flag type. or the locate the leaders/Yls type
(all leaders and YLs have a unique stamp or mark or somthing they go and hide scouts (or patrols) have a bit of paper each and have to find the leaders and get their mark.... winner is the first person (or team) to find all the leaders, to make it harder the leaders can move around and change hiding place as often as they like) on grassland it has to be frizbee golf.... set a couse of holes (hula hoops) and start points, rules as golf but you throw a friszbee, land it in the hoop to complete the hole, genrally on camp sites the 18th "hole" is ran up the flagpole so they have to trow the frizbee though the hoop
