any news? ETA on returned systems?

Sorry to be a nag (i do it so well.... ) but I am getting a lot of flak from my group, my exec and my parents about this.

Apparently I should have kept copies of parent email addresses other than for my own section. Everyones a critic.

Is there anything we can do to help?

Strange my post seems to have disappeared.
Never mind. As I said 4.5 weeks is a long time to be without a web site. So we are moving on.
4th Lowestoft have still moved to Knethosting (www.knethosting.co.uk) at £14.95 per year with 99.99% guaranteed uptime, the cost is more than covered by our google ads.

Lucky you! Did they give you any news on how the HDD got on in the caddy? My group is ok with the current downtime, i've given them an alternate email address if they need it. Just as well i have most of my emails downloaded onto outlook for reference. lets keep ourfingers crossed guys

Cheap but I don't know how they can guarantee uptime.

Mainly because they host big sites and then make a smaller amount of money selling to home sites and small businesses, that way they can offer the same availability they offer to the larger customer.

Yeah but that doesn't guarantee uptime. If their hardware goes kaput then the service is down.

Also scheduled downtime won't be included in the guarantee.

And their "guarantee" doesn't cover:
  • time whilst servers are being restarted,
  • hardware breakdowns.
  • User error(s) or purposeful interruption(s) of the user service
  • Failures due to software that is not explicitly supported by kNet Hosting

Ultimately you get what you pay for. If you pay nothing you can't complain when it's unavailable.

Quite frankly, that's not helpful. I'm a busy scouter with a relationship, job, business, group, district and county roles. If you'd paid for the service there would have been backups restored to new hardware within minutes of a suspect failure. Free comes without guarentees.

Regarding other hosting companies, perhaps you would refrain from posting about them, both Lemonstorm and Pathfinder Hosting are competitive and support Escouts.

This thread is now closed, when I receive an update from the technician Daniel, Richard and I are paying for (that's right, cold hard cash) I will post some a new discussion.
