Cancellation of Escouts Ecamp 2010

It is with regret that I have decided to cancel Escouts Ecamp 2010.

Whilst I booked with confidence, as the booking costs were low and therefore the cost of the camp was low. For a number of reasons it appears we are unable to get enough numbers to justify the camp and therefore peoples time, despite extending the closing date.

Fingers crossed for next year and apologies for any inconvience

It still might be an idea to get more support for Ecamps if we had different camps, one in the North and one in ste south.

Possibly, its clear not many people want to travel too far to be honest, but the date was becoming an issue,

not so much which weekend people could make but June is such a busy Scouting time, and people were trying to fit many Scouting things in and Family, etc etc

If we were to hold a slightly out of season camp we may get more availability of people

I think you are probably right. But when is the question. September / October or February / March, then the weather might be an issue.

For the past 3 years, September has pretty much been the best month of the year. I've switched our pack holiday to it for this year as I'm sick of drying tents :-)

Could it perhaps be worth looking at an indoor based event, like the uk.rec.scouting Face To Face meetings tended to be?

Correct me if I am wrong but there was going to be a building available for those that didn't want to camp

Yip it had indoor and outdoor accomodation.

It was the ideal campsite.

Course the problems with most buidings is their is a bigger cost to hiring them, and bigger outlay

Maybe set a date for next year asap and then people can commit to it if they want to. Maybe July rather than June.

Is it for escouts members, or for groups? I don't know much about it tbh.

I have an idea as a substitute for all those who did want to go to Ecamp!

Perhaps Escouts could submit a team into The Rabbit Run 2010! I'm part of a 4 man team organising this event. It's being held at Ancaster Activity Centre in Lincolnshire. It's £40 PP (Which I hear you say is expensive) but that price includes central catering, Professional Go Karting, and of course the main rabbit run event, as well as lots of other team activities. Last year was a massive success, and we hope this year to be much bigger.

It's ideal as Ancaster (Just off the A1) is Kind of Central (Slightly East)

If anyone is up for this, drop me a PM.
