Looks okay for a basic site

Putting a link just so people can see the site more easily www.5thcwmnewydd.escouts.net

Thanks for that.
"basic site" - it has taken me hours!
Still first go at this - so ok.
I've added the link to the links page - is this ok?
Keep the coments coming - I do not offend easily & know the info is just to make the site better.
Come on down.

You Know It Makes Sense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quite basic, although I like the idea of the front page.

Just one thing though, don't copy and paste HTML from another site like you have on the rememberance day page. That HTML is taken from the BBC website. Instead of doing that, make a link to the page open in a new window (e.g. add '<a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/remembrance/history/scouts.shtml" target="_blank">Link title</a>') as it is illigal to copy it.

Thanks for the advice on the Rememberance Day stuff. What I've done is to add a comment to show where I got the info.
I intend to change it and write it myself. I'd like to add info about Penllergaer to it.
Keep the comments coming in. All comments - good or bad - are welcomed.

Might be a bit picky but I found navigation a little confusing.

Maybe add a text based menu to the front page to complement the clicking on pictures way of navigating.

some of the gallery does not fit onto one page
the navigation is ok, for me, though it does change.

i would also suggest that u use a CSS to make ur site better. by this i mean when you wish to change something on one page and have it cascaded through the rest of the site you will, atm have to do it by hand (long and tedious) but if u use a CSS then it will mean that you can do it once and have it cascaded through thee rest of the site.

also get the HTML to validate

Ok.
So my first attempt at a website.
All the Group really like it. People I have asked to view it all follow it easily & like it.
It is only written in Frontpage 2003 - nothing wrong there. But I can not get the html to validate! Why cant Frontpage do this automatically!
I'd really like to get an escouts award for the Group. Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks
Jerry

How about a bit more text on the homepage, along with sooe sort of navbar for the links, and possible a site-wide design and colour scheme that is represented on the home page, possible a font scheme and less clipart and srolling marquees. If you are using frontpage, may I reccomend the layout tables, which are perfect for you to set up the page layout and the dynamic web templates, which are perfect for this sort of thing.

I don't use Frontpage, I use Dreamweaver, so this is a bit hazy from what I remember of trying FP.
Doesn't it give you the option of looking at the html as well as the WYSIWYG view?
If you can look at the html code and compare it to the results from the W3 validation; you may be able to tweak the code yourself manually. Obviously make back ups first but then just have a go.
Looking at your page through w3's validation site, the first place to start would be to set the document type, after that just keep working your way through and tweaking before re-validating and repeating. Setting the Alt tags and the doc type should reduce the number of w3 errors significantly.

Hope this helps, crack on and have a go! (but back up first!!)

Looking at it very quickly at the moment - the site might get a bronze award or perhaps a silver.

Please bear in mind that this is a very quick first impression and I haven't done a full review of the site like I would do if I was reviewing for an award.

I'll just point out here that these are not out to critisise your site. It looks good and if you like it then that is the most important aspect, you are the one who has to run it.

They are used to people error checking sites and that is what all the posts are.

I would go much wider. How do you think that the site can best develop to serve your young people, leaders and parents? The site can look good, bad, awful or indifferent, but it will stand or fall on how useful it is to the people it serves.

One comment I would make is that, although I like the concept of the front page, a link to the rest of the content of the site would be helpful to navigate around. I would suggest replicating the links on the group_front_page as text links at the bottom of every page, so that people can find your content easily.

Good luck, and remember - they're all just jealous really

A: Because MicroSoft don't want it to!

Thanks for the replies.

Hopefully it will help me improve the site. Looking at the work needed to get the site to validate it is probably going to take me forever! But who cares - because I'm after the Platinum award.
Keep the advice coming in.

Jerry.
