5th Cwm Newydd - Penllergaer

Greetings.
Ok I've got a Silver - but really want a Gold.
The site is fully satisfying the Group requirements (we are still considering the forum & registered e-mail address issue). We have started to use e-mail as the primary contact with our Explorers & this is saving both time & money.
So what can I do to get Gold? Any ideas please – remember at this stage I’m not after a high Gold – just a Gold. When I mark it I just scrape a Gold, so I can not be that far off (hopefully).

the menu to me seems very... creative

i think that splash pages are a waste of time - it is just an extra click towards the three.

also the when you go onto say beaver and need to get back to scouts you have to scroll to the bottom, a bit different.

there are a fair few sites that offer code for menus with two menus. this would be perfect for your site. make the main page have the sections ont he left then in the second menu have the pages that you have already got for each section.

it seems alot but, this is my personal prefrence, the site dosent look tidy with the spash page as a home page.

as well as that the disclaimer dosent have a menu. you may loose a mark for the site changing colour with some reveiwers. it fits in the with the site well but it changes.

sorry if i said alot but i feel that you have got a gold site and it just needs tweaking. the content is definately there but the design could be changed slightly.

I agree that having the menu for changing sections at the bottom of the page isn't the best arrangement. Our site used to have something similar in its 1st design but when I redisigned the website i changed this to the links being under the header.

Cheers guys.

When I made the front page it was just to open the site. I imagine that the individual member would bookmark their section of the site & go straight in. I do use it to notify changed pages so it has some use.

Point taken on the links between sections - I'll see what I can do. Obviously a Scout would not go into Beaver pages very often - but point taken.

In the disclaimer issue I wanted users to have to go to the bottom to get back - sort of a statement that they have read & understood the site rules.

Keep the advice flowing.

Your content is great but i think navigation is a little tricky i would be tempted to get rid of the splash page and change it for one of your group pages to keep a uniformed look throughout. Also i would add your links to the top under your banner like this i had a play with it.

i had a quick play with it, its not great but it gives you an idea.

I would ditch the current splash page and use the group_fron_page as your home page - maybe add the Beavers/Cubs/Scouts logos there and also the updated bits.

Ok (sitting hear with tears rolling down my face - I really liked the old “Splash” front page.
But never mind – I’m sure I’ll get over it one day.
Ok I have done all the changes put forward so far – which way now?
I know the new (sob) front page needs work. But thats for tomorrow.

Don't forget these are only our oppinions - it is your site and you can design it as you see fit.

We don't mind if you disagree with our suggestions (well most of us don't anyway)

Cheers Jelly.
No problem really. I know that it is the aim of Escouts to hopefully promote Scouting & too this aim website design is important. I have seen some really bad sites from all around the world when setting ours up - not something I want to be involved in.
My aim is promote Scouting in Penllergaer & hopefully in a little way to a much wider audience.

New front page looks good - I think that you could still include some or all of the content from the old splash page in the new home page, but the design now brings the site together to look like one whole site

I also suggest that you alter the design of the Privacy Policy page to match the rest of the site, uniformity and all that (it does score on the award scheme too)

3 suggestions

1) Images - Especially the section ones - but before you do that look at point 2

2) The Dramatic colour change between sections is a bit much - I do know what you are trying to show but it's very hard on the eyes
- So how about swapping the colours round - use turquise for the borders on the beaver page and make the fill white ?

3) Rolovers on Links - I can give you the css for that if you want it
