    Poor Quality Gilwell Publications

    Wayne,

I find myself recommending some reading for a new scout leader in our group and am disappointed to have to refer him to the Irish Scout Association for anything worth reading. None of the Gilwell publications really seem to hit the spot, either for the YP or the leaders. Can we review what Gilwell produces and perhaps ask the Scout Shops to sell Colm Kavanagh's 'The Scouting Trail' in the meantime.

Attached a link to a thread about 'the Irish Book' from the end of 2008.

    Hi Matthew,

I can't agree that TSA has nothing worth reading I'm afraid, we receive a considerable amount of feedback regularly which suggests otherwise. Much of this is positive although many suggestions are made for improvements, particularly following the major changes of 5+ years ago which have been taken into account in more recent publications, including reducing the prices.

We can do better though, and following some of this feedback, we are presently working on several new publications including new games books and a major Scoutcraft publication. We also have plans for a series of "how to" videos/DVD etc in the pipeline.

    Cheers,
    Wayne

    Thanks Wayne,

Can I recommend that whoevers writing the books you refer to (the Scoutcraft one sounds interesting) have a look at Cavanagh's book. It really is very good.

    Thanks for your response.
