We have a semaphore page on our troop website:

    http://3rdbillericayscouts.org.uk/Or...Semaphore.html

And here's a set of flash cards of words made up with just the letters A-G, good for a first lesson

We did semaphore in th hall with glow sticks, each cub in the six had a letter and the other sixes had to work out what the word was.

    Hi.

I split my group into two and used walkie talkies to remotely build the same building blocks construction. Each group had to talk to the other group and tell them what blocks they were using and postioning. The cubs thought it was great fun. We also did the same type of thing by remotely drawing pictures. 3 cubs - 1 acts as the drawer of the original picture, once acts as a runner and communicator to the other cub who then hopefully draws the same picture based on what has been communicated to them. Good fun all round.

Another activity I am going to try in a couple of weeks time as part of the lead up to bon fire night is to stick labels to each cubs forehead with the name of a famous being written on it - Could be a current famous person from TV or movie, sport, royalty, fictional (Mickey Mouse) or someone from history like.....Guy Fawkes - cue for the theme night! Cubs then have to mingle with each other and ask probing questions to establish who they are. Could be used as part of the communicator badge maybe???

    Hope this helps.

    Regards Fiestafolie

There is also Morse code which can be done as hand signals something like semaphore, it is sometimes called “Pussers Morse”

    There are three signals.

A Dot : both hands and Arms above you head.
A Dash: Both hands and arms straight out either side at shoulder level.
The space between letters and words, as in Semaphore down and crossed.

    It is also good exercise!
