Recycled Uniform

Hi

I am thinking of starting a recycling uniform shop wherebeavers that move up to cubs and cubs that move to scouts can tradde in uniform

How do otehrs do this#? I was thinking of possibly paying a couple of quid then sell themn for a minor profit

Does anyone have any letters they send home to parents and to new members

We have done this for some years, although you will find a lot of uniform gets recycled to siblings / friends anyway.

Here's the kind of item we pop into our newsletters etc:


"Just a reminder that we run a scouty stuff “recycling stall” (well, ok, a “recycling box” ).

It’s an ideal place to donate items as your child grows out of them. If you have any suitable good quality items (such as uniform or waterproofs) to donate please let us know.
Rest assured they get put to good use as we are then able to offer them to other families in our Scout Group for purchase, obviously cheaper than they could purchase new elsewhere.

We then add any monies received from sales directly into our Discretionary Fund. This aims to ensure all children are able to part in all that scouting can offer, irrespective of parental ability to pay.

So in effect every item you donate benefits local scouting families twice—firstly the family who is able to buy something and secondly the family who benefits from the discretionary fund."

Most of the lost property we have ends up being binned as not fit for much else!

We do log stuff as in what comes in and how much it's sold for, helps the next person who takes the role on to have an idea of what things can be sold for.

We do a recycling of uniform & useful scouty stuff. It's looked after by our parents & friends committee but we don't charge for it; I work on the basis that what goes around comes around, parental time is worth far more than money.

a leader in a neighbouring district is connected with a scout district in Kenya...

They YP there are not allowed to attend "offical" events without some form of uniform so he reuglarly sends out UK uniforms that have been out grown. All they need is a Scout logo or a World badge on them... I just sent him my 20yr old Venture Sea Scout shirt...

He has an "advert" in the local Scout Shop (from memory) and occasional notes in the district newsletter to jog leaders minds.
