Cool Badge App for Android Phones

I agree with you Roger, an app for Andoid mobile phones needs to be released as not everyone has an iPhone or can afford one. As far as I can see they are a waste of money. Yes the apps can be useful but who wants such apps as being able to find who is homosexual in a room etc.....

I for one am happy with my Samsung Toco Lite but if I could get an app which I could download to the phone to help with Badge Requirements i would get it for use when trying to plan sessions when I haven't got access to the internet or copies of the Coplony Essentials, Programme Plus etc...

Neither would I as i don't use them. I only know about the iPhone app I mentioned as it was mentioned by Stephen Fry when he appeared on Top Gear as their Star in a Resonably Price Car. I am sure there are some really useful apps on there aswell.

It would just be nice for everyone to not assume that everyone HAS an iPhone

A shame seeing as this will presumably be a paid for app like the iPhone app the TSA is apparently developing this on an unpaid basis. I can;t see why if TSA put some money into developing this it wouldn't get it back from the app charges.

Wayne has come back to me and commented

    "Hi Roger,

Patience paying off, the following from my colleagues:

"The Android version of the My Badges app is being worked on by a team of volunteers in tandem with the developer of the original iPhone app. We are expecting a prototype at the end of this month and subject to quality testing we will release the finished app this autumn.

Several people have offered to have a go at producing a badge app, but we felt that it was important to ensure that the quality, spec and approval of the Android app is totally consistent with the iPhone product – otherwise members would be understandably aggrieved.

Apologies for the delay on this – as we are working on a no budget basis this means we have to work within people’s free time."

    Thanks,
    Wayne

Will this excellent app be modified to allow Sectional record keeping?

At the moment it allows for one badge to be awarded to one person only. Or am I doing it wrong..

    Still a giant step forwards.

...online scout manager will soon have a mobile app, and it may eventually allow you to update badge records (offline if you have no signal at your hut, which'll later be synchronised with the website when you get signal).

I'll be initially releasing it with just a few features - attendance register (linked with the programme badge requirements to update records like the site does) and a list of outstanding/due badges - as those are the things that would be useful to have OSM in the hut, the rest can be done later...

What I cannot understand that there is one in existence working which Scout Association have stopped being supplied.

What i cant understand is how people could be confused, if the unofficial home made android app has the same look and feel as the iPhone app, then fair enough, but if its different then why stop it?
if you browse the android market, there are lots of apps, some from the official source, and some unofficial versions, some of the newspapaer apps have an official version and several user created versions.

It appears that when it comes to stuff like this, the Scout association is missing a golden opportunity to allow its own members, both youth and adult to design and publish something that would be beneficial to all members, and cost somewhat less than a design agency would charge.

Confusion might be the wrong term.

But what we want is an app that is accurate and up to date, something that an unofficial app can't provide over an official app. So I'm all for the official app - I'm just hoping they see the error of charging the same as the iPhone app considering much of that goes to iTunes and not the developer.
