Cool Canadian Beaver Colony hoping to Link with UK Colony

Hi everyone! I lead a Beaver group in Kelowna, BC, Canada, and am hoping to link first over email, then regular mail with a Beaver group in the UK. We have 21 Beavers aged 4 to 7. I'm not exactly sure how or what we'd do for linking, maybe share trinkets, photos or colouring pages? Maybe you have some thoughts on that! Please email if you're interested - karenandphil at shaw dot ca, or post here... I'm looking forward to 'meeting' you!

    Hi Karen
Welcome to the forum. Two things: First, not a good idea to post your email address in an open forum like this (now edited :-) as hackers will troll and get it! Better to spell it out such as karenandphil at shaw dot ca, then the automated trolling programs can't find it.

Second is a word of caution on the cost of normal mail penpals! Even exchanging say christmas cards in bulk can cost quite a bit. It is much better if you can set up to exchange via email or to electronically send video messages back and forth to one another. The kids have fun doing it, you just need to find a way that makes it affordable. Good luck with your search.

Ahhhhh! Thanks for the help... I'm rather trusting. I'm sure I can connect extra colonies in this thread to other colonies in Canada, we have an active Facebook page that I'll post on... so no worries there! I'm excited to get started, I think the kids will be too! Trulee, since you were first to post back, how many Beavers do you have? It's late here and I just wanted to check and see if there was any interest! I'll check again and reply this weekend. Have a fabulous day!

Sorry! Went off the grid for a few days! I will do my best (hey, isn't that Cubs!?) to SHARE SHARE SHARE the info with other Canadian groups. I can almost guarantee success! We've got some very enthusiastic groups here! I have been thick in planning the programme for the few months plus we have a winter camp this weekend - Harry Potter style! So that's my excuse for not replying promptly like I promised. Thanks for your patience!

When my eldest wanted to find a penfriend for his Scouts Global challenge there was a rather well hidden page on the scouts website where you could apply for one...isn't there something similar for whole groups? Seems like there would be plenty of interest especially since it's included as an option in the challenge badges. I expect we'd be interested too but maybe more of a winter thing when we're not so busy with gardening and jubilees and things!
