    Cotswold Outdoor night

We have an interesting night tomorrow night.

A couple of weeks ago I was in Cotswold Outdoor buying some new boots for my wife. A guy came up to me to ask if we needed any help and I just checked with him if they do the Scouting discount. This then lead us on a conversation about the activities Cotswold are trying to do for Scouts. It turns out this guy has been trying to get in touch with the local groups to include them in free activities they have been doing at the store, for example they had a free climbing wall over the Easter weekend, unfortunately whom ever he contacted did not pass on the information and no scouts showed up. I was really disappointed because I would have definitely taken our explorers down. Anyway, the conversation went on and he mentioned that he was a teacher and he has started doing talks and presentations for school and scout groups.

To cut a long story short (I was in there for over an hour chatting with him), he is coming to our unit tomorrow night to do a walking boot clinic, he is going to measure up and fit us for rucksacks (just a demo sadly no free rucksacks) and he is going to let us have a play with some of the other new kit they have in-store including GPS units.

It should be good fun, I will post a review of the evening shortly after.

It amazes me how many people have contact with or an interest in Scouting.

    Kai

    That sounds fantastic

Do you know if this is just an individual store being very generous or is this a nationwide thing?

We've been offered the same by the Manager in Cotswold Shrewsbury. He talked about doing several different sessions on different topics.

I haven't taken him up on it yet so I'll be interested to hear how it goes.

He was pretty up front that they were hoping that it would encourage parents to go into the store and buy stuff.

Oh do tell! I tried a little while ago, but didn't get very far. You never know, may be some of his fellow district members are members here and can give another side of the story!

i googled for a group with own climbing wall and abseiling tower

that led me almost at the top of the results to quite a big group with minibusses and trailers

this group was months late paying their subs last year (cf. another thread by scallywag)

they have multiple AGSLs and seem to be quite active.

Just checked this and it agreed with the answer I had reached by a diferent route.

If our colleague is trying to hide his identity from his district team I suggeset he may be too late.

Assuming I've guessed right, Is there not someone else from that Group that regularly posts here?

Now you mention it, it would seem so. And I'm not even sure if that other person is aware!

I also googled and I think you could be right. Assuming we have the right group. Have to admit because I recognised the group from someone else on heres posts I didn't think that was it. There was another possibility in the search results but they had received an award so that ruled them out.
