View Full Version : Beavers Absailing

Hi, has anyone ever took there Beavers absailing down a small wall? We did it a
few weeks back and it went very successful, i am currently putting some photos
on the web of it so i will let you know when they are up so you can get an idea
of how high the wall was etc, i will put them on UKRSA.

The Beavers loved it, hopefully now they will be very willing to do it when
they are older instead of running 2 mile as soon as they are told they will be
climbing and absailing.

One thing to do though is not tell them, it was on the beaver fun day when we
did it, it was a case of walking though the woods doing tasks at bases,
crossing the stepping stones and then throwing them in at the deep end by
telling them they can have ago at absailing.

There were a few who didnt do it/didnt want to do it but we were expecting
that, overall, a great day out for the Beavers and us Explorers.

BTW, the Explorers ended up racing in the Sedan Chairs race, mmm, what a
supprise, my team won. :-) Another very good way to get the Explorers helping
with the Beavers.

P.S. A friend has asked me to put a poll somewhere about Scouting, please could you take part.

As an abseiling & climbing instructor, I think kids should be a little older before they start. The reverse is also true - if they are too small and get put off, it tends to be for life...

I think that its a case of horse for courses. I take beavers abseiling down a bank near our HQ, ok you could probably walk down, but they find it quite exciting. :)

Strangley enough we also do it with explorers using a strtecher, and they like hat too, although we havn't tried it with a human victim yet
