I'm at beavers tonight, the outdoor programme is SNAFU and we are indoors and I need a stack of team games... NOT FOOTBALL!

Any ideas.

snowballs - newspaper and tape thats all you need

relay games - over and under, stepping on chairs etc.

Why do you need all games? Can you teach them a reef knot? some may know it, teach them something else.

Get them to tell you their favourite games

relay races - skipping, hopping, backwards, jumping etc
volley ball with a balloon
hot potato - keep the ball out of your quarter of the room - lose a life everytime the whistle blows and the ball is in your quarter
5 bean bags in middle of room, each team behind a chair - take it in turns to come out and get a bb from chair - or another teams chair - first team to get 3 bb on their chair wins

Parachute games? Split it in 2 halves both have to try and get the ball off the parachute by going over the other team.

Load of relays- change the action. Run, skip, hop, jump, crawl, walk backwards, sidestep...

Crocodile Island - sheets of Newspaper - 1 per pair to start with. when the music stops they have to get on the newspaper. take away one sheet per go until your eventually left with a couple of sheets and 16 beavers trying to support each other to get on it.
One minute to stand - a quick game, takes about one minute. The beavers lie down, and after you call start are to stand up when they think one minute has passed. You time it correctly and take a note of the beaver nearest to the correct time. Stop them still lying there after a minute and a half.

Couple of good ones there.

Knots are a non starter with this lot. We did a relay game last night where they piled their shoes at the end of the hall and had a relay race to put them back on again. Even with velcro, some had problems!

This is a new Colony with a new Leader and although he has lots of games, we are finding that some of them are above Beaver level. We are still sorting out the initial discipline challenges and that has an impact on what we do. There are still a couple that need constant intervention and they would require one-to-one on something like knotting, which puts the others at risk from lack of supervision.

Thanks. Memory refreshed ( I don't usually do Beavers).
