    back

Weddings are a pain. Almost three months I've been absent with scouting with the oncoming rush of the wedding freight train.

Even had to take a back seat role in the family camp! (Which I hope our beavers cubs scouts and parents enjoyed!)

So did I miss anything important?

I have just got back from attending my bothers wedding and even though it wasn't my wedding it entailed missing two weekly Explorer meetings (one for the stag do and one for the wedding itself) so I can only imagine what effect organising your own wedding would have on your Scouting.

Now what we want is a wedding couple in Cambridgeshire and we could make it a real scouty do - as I could conduct the wedding

In my role I've conducted / helped plan thousands of weddings - and my own was the biggest nightmare of the lot

Even though my partner was a Scout leader (taking a break from it) - that would be her worst nightmare for the wedding!!

I also thought a large marquee with the cooking on double burners a fantastic idea as well...

One of our SL's is getting hitched in August. I understand it was nearly called off when he suggested the HQ for the reception

When I got engaged it was suggested by a leader in the group that the Scouts could form a guard of honour at the wedding.

When my wife-to-be found out about the idea, she instantly booked a wedding venue ... in New Zealand!

I was also banned from making any reference to Scouts during my speech, and she threatened to disown me when I suggested that I could wear my Scout uniform, and renew my promise beforehand. (We got married during the Cenetary celebrations in 2007 and I'd missed the Sunrise events due to being on a plane!)

    Just wear your uniform....

they'll have to mention it then!!

Word of advice from an old hand (29 years this year)

It's not THE most important day... its the 10,585 days that follow!

PS an old college friend of my wife, got married in Leeds years ago and got the whole pack (she was Akela) along as guard of honour. Also they'd been learning how to make cups of tea so whilst the photos went on outside the church, we all had a nice cuppa, and another and another, and another!!

Im scared of the "M" word, the OH mentioned it a few weeks ago, in passing...Scary!!

The SL's OH has said she will KILL anyone who does anything scouty at their wedding.
