    Help with craft

For a Beaver leader, I am shockingly bad at craft activities . However our Colony are going to try and make a model of The Chocolate Room from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for our District craft competition.

It will be made on a cardboard box base with 2 sides. I was thinking of building the waterfall from papiers mache with kitchen roll tubes for the pipes.

Does anyone have a suggestions for some interesting materials we could made the chocolate river from, rather than just painting?

    Thanks in advance.

    Chocolate?
Line the area you want the river to cover with silver foil, then melt some chocolate and pour it along the river.

Failing that, how about crumpled cling film or some cellophane? perhaps a local florist may be prepared to donate some.

I would go with chocolate and then get the beavers to make all the beautiful flowers from their fav sweets... that way if your dont win, you can always eat it!

Some fantastic ideas there - thank you so much.

We are definately going to decorate the flowers with sweeties and I love the jelly baby Oompa Loompas!

I hadn't thought about actually making the river out of chocolate but the more I think about it the better it sounds. Will probably leave that bit until the last minute though!

OMIGOD! You are going to have Beavers do this?

    Rather you than me!

On your river. If you use just chocolate it will set hard, and if you overheat it, it will be matt finish and look like the Thames in spate.

If you gently melt your chocolate and add syrup, it will make a chocolate sauce. Wich will be thick enough to hold in a foil tray, but will look liquid and be great for dunking the Oompah loompahs in... ( Or you could simply buy a bottle of chocolate sauce).

How clever do you want to get with it? A visit to your local H*ar*b* stockist will give you all sorts of little gems you can use to make your Chocolate room look wierd and wonderful - Sharks, bells, mini-gummi bears, cherries, lips, foam teeth, coke bottles... Pick up a couple of Freddos. If you shop around you'll find other chocolate animals you can use too.

oh, the pipes... Flumps, dynosticks, No need for anything inedible at all.

Nonetheless, I think that if you are going to do this with Beavers you must be mad! Expect a high attrition rate amongst the oompah loompahs!

    Ewan,

You clearly have an eye for these things - perhaps it could be the GSL's special programme night for your Beavers!

    Yup!

Isn't that part of the fun?

I will have to let the chocolate set as I have to transport it to a District Craft competition a few days after. A melted chocolate river has even less chance of surviving in my house than in a roomful of Beavers.

I will let you know how it tuns out.

Brilliant idea - we'll need to see the photos of the end product!!

Was going to suggest chocolate too....

If your Beavers are anything like ours, they love and get really engrossed in it...

    Have fun!!!

We made the river out of cooking chocolate and there are a few jelly baby oompah loompha's in there somewhere!

We came third in the competition which I was very pleased with.
