Concrete5 Scout Template now for 5.5 as well!!!

Please note this template has been updated for 5.5

Concrete5 is simply the best, most powerful Content Management System I have used, whats more is Free (open source).

http://www.concrete5.org/r/-/25556(I get Karma for the link!!)

When looking for a CMS for Scouting, above all we wanted a powerful system that was 'Easy to Edit', has a powerful user group permissions, and was extendable. To put it bluntly, Joomla, Wordpress or Drupal don't have a patch on this!! Concrete5 is the answer, since I launched discovered Concrete 5 and hacked a existing template to fit, literally hundreds of Scout Sites now use Concrete 5 and this template. They key is its very white and very flexible, an example of the template in action can be seen at http://www.sesscouts.org.uk

So through Escouts, I am releasing information on how to help you start enjoying Concrete5 with this Escouts UK Scout theme The concrete 5 Installation Instructions are Here http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/installation/installing_concrete5

If you are using Concrete 5 version 5.5.1 and above use the attachment 5.5above.zip

If you are using Concrete 5 version 5.4.2.2 and below use the attachment 5.4below.zip

Please note the themes are only compatible with the correct version of Concrete 5. You will get an error message if you install the wrong theme in the wrong version.

Extract the zip file and upload, using ftp etc, the directory theme_escouts_5-5above into the yoursite.org.uk/themes directory (or in cpanel public_html/themes) in version 5.5.1 and above you will have to create this directory if it is a fresh install of concrete 5.

In the themes section, you should see the new theme waiting and ready to be installed.

The header image can be any image you want dimensions 882 x 100 pixels and it must be named escoutsweb.gif, but clearly you'd make it your own group etc.I've included the photoshop file, but the typeface is licenced, so unless you have bought the font The serif Black Caps, you'll need to make it a different, similar font.

Massive thanks to concrete5studio.com who wrote the original theme, which I customised.

I'm sure it is something really simple, but . . .

    Hi all,

Thanks to Gav and his Magic I have got Concrete5 on my website (project), and I think I have successfully added Richard's Scout Template (thanks Richard).

    BUT

I cannot add a page and the header bar does not work.

I am sure it is something simple but can anyone help me?

    Thanks in Advance

    Ian

When you say the header bar doesn't work

Have you signed in and does it appear.

Have you enabled JavaScript for the site?

I'm playing with it for our new site and it really is very intuitive and the modified template Richard has done is good although I have made a few minor changes

    Carbon-based Error

I agree - this is SO intuitive to use! Loving it loving it loving it!

The error was because I pressed the pretty url button without the appropriate php file (someone else told me this). A simple press of the button, and it works again!!

Thanks to all who offered help to this particular numbskull!

And many Thanks to Richard for putting me on to this - SO much easier than Joomla or Wordpress for a beginner.

    Regards

I can use joomla quite well but this is just a lot more intuitive with its on site editing.

Only downside is the slight lack of add ons (especially free ones) but I expect that will improve with time and IMHO the trade off is worth it as I might actually be able to teach other Leaders how to update a concrete5 site

I think that is ultimately it. Joomla and wordpress delivered with me for many years. However, they were always a bit complicated to edit, for normal people, so the techy was always left to update it.

    is the image at :
    localhost/packages/theme_simple_blue/themes/simple_blue/images/sesscoutweb.gif ?

Is it being blocked by somethhing?

You could always look at the html and see the path of the image, and make sure its right
