Blue Peter Whizz Kidz Appeal - free stuff!

One of my Cubs alerted me to the Blue Peter appeal this year, supporting Whizz Kidz, a charity that raises funds for mobility trikes and wheelchairs for disabled children.

You request a pack of free materials to make Christmas cards (it seems to be 4 per child), get the kids to design them and then return them Freepost.

The cards are then put on sale in selected Tesco stores and the funds raised buy mobility equipment.

The deadline for returning the finished cards is 18th October.

    I have too, thanks.

It's a great idea which can be done in any odd minute, one per week or even while in the Sin Bin!

    Thanks. Just sent an email.

What do they do though, do they print more copies of the cards, or sell the originals?

They sell the originals, which is why there are rules about not writing inside the card.

Every child can write their name on the back of the card though, which I think is a really nice idea.

I got mine the other day so our beavers and cubs will be having fun in a weeks time. Only the childs first name is allowed and they supply some things that can be stuck on as well. Now I just need to get some glue, glitter and felt pens lol

Angela, how long did your pack take to arrive? I'm trying to work out when to slot this activity into my programme.

    Thanks!

I registered earlier on in September but I know they were sending them out on or around the release of the appeal on the programme on the 20th Sept, I think they arrived on that day or the 21st. We are programming them in for the first week in October and then will be sending them straight back.

Finally received our pack this morning. A note inside says that "due to overwhelming demand we have had to reduce your order".

I have precisely 12 cards for 29 Cubs.

I'm glad it has been successful, but really ...

I will never do a Blue peter activity. Got all the stuff for T-shirts an dthen they closed it. When I emailed them they said to send at our cost an dthey would see what use they could be put too.

    Too much hassle and heartache

Sadly I won't be joining in again either.

The Cub who mentioned the activity to me in the first place will get a couple of friends in to make the cards this weekend, bless her little cotton socks.

Irony of that is I got too many, they should have specified it was 4 cards to a pack as I ordered 30 packs for 30 beavers and cubs only to find I had 4 times the number that I wanted. This will be why they have run out. I am passing my extra ones over to another group in my area who missed the boat.

Ah, now I know who to blame! They did say on the website that each child would receive 4 cards, although you had to dig around to find the information.

What made me cross was that I specifically said that I have 29 Cubs. You would think that anyone with half a brain could work out that there was no point in sending 12 to me! They could at least have sent me a quick email to ask if it was worth sending that few.

Anyway, I praised my lovely little Cub to the skies this evening and she is going to have a "card party" at the weekend. (I hope she didn't mean poker ...)

I got a total of 16 cards, received last week and they have to be in by next Monday

Bit of a waste of time really, although Ross may do a few.
