    Bag Packing

Today we had out regular bag packing slot, last Sunday before Christmas. This year though we found the shops distinctly quieter than the last couple of years. We made decent money but no where near the close to a grand we made last couple of years (not counted but you don't need to be a genius to figure it out looking in the collecting tins).

Is this a Cambridge phenominon or have other groups noticed it?

Not bag-packing, but Wrexham seemed much quieter today than you might expect this close to Christmas.

We have bag packed the last two saturday at Sainsbury. Our 6th Year. just over £2100 to share between 8 groups in District.
About 5% down on last year.
The biggest surprise is that two large Stores in close by Cities had no scouts bag packing in them?

We bag packed yesterday at the local Morrisons and although it started off well by lunch time the shop had quietened down , it looks as though we ended up slightly down on previous years.

I did bag packing a few years ago and said I'd never do it again. My back ached for days after and it reminded me why I stopped working in shops.

Best of luck to anyone doing it.

He's in Dewsbury. I did the first Saturday, which was as early before Christmas, as two Saturday's before Christmas can ever be.

There is a large Sainsbury's in the White Rose Shopping Centre in Leeds, which is the one I use most, and I have never seen the South Leeds & Morley district organise the Sainsbury's pre Christmas bagpacking there, which is a real shame.

Could it just be that this year the last sunday before christmas is still a long way from christmas? I.e. lots of people won't be doing the christmas shop yet, as carrots and sprouts could go off by next week.

(We've got scouts in our reception today selling cakes, and very nice they are too)

I got offered Thursday, but had no leaders to cover it, so had to decline.

Yep, we are still a week away from Christmas so it's still early for grocery Christmas Shopping.

I've also noticed that since the Welsh Bag Tax came in in October I haven't seen ANY Scouts doing bag packing (of course, my sample size is far too small to be statistically relevant!!)

Who are you calling a Welsh Bag?

Despite the tax, people are still shopping in supermarkets, buying the same amount of stuff, which still needs to be carried back to the car. Which means bags still need to be packed, even if people are bringing their own... which a lot of people (mainly of a certain generation) have been doing for ages, particularly in Sainsburys cos you get Nectar points.

We have "bag-packed" in IKEA and they don't have bags at all. It would be more accurate to say we trolley-packed, plus wrapping breakables in brown paper.
