    Explorer Scout Community badge

We have an Explorer who is a young carer for a parent, would it be appropriate to award them the Community badge for this, or is it specifically for a wider community rather than within the family?

The badge requirements say to speak to the Special Needs Office at Gilwell Park for guidance on adjusting the requirements.

As far as my opinion, I would suggest that being a young carer is a 'special need' and that this would be appropriate for awarding the badge, more so if being a young carer limits their opportunities to participate in other activities.

If your explorer wasn't doing this, someone in the community would have to...being a young carer is far and above 'normal' chores and family tasks. This is your call as a leader, so long as you feel its OK it is.

If you feel tahts he eraned and deserves it then issue it. Badge rules should not be written in stone.

I woudl like to see Community Badge as a stage badge;like Nights and Hikes Away. Doing more service means the higher levels can be awarded.
