I haven't participated much on Escouts over recent months, mainly due to work commitments, however, you can fully expect to see me there. I am not one to turn down meeting my E friends. Heck, if I can fly to Canada twice in 9 months to meet friends and business associates who I know via the Internet, going to Derbyshire should be no trouble.

Just out of interest, what is the reasoning behind just the one night camp? It seems already a number of people have hinted that they will be travelling Friday evening, and camping for two nights. This will mean we will get the full day Saturday, rather than just half the day.

I think there is a couple of points that are present, which mean a balance needs to be found. Ultimately, it all boils down to travel times.

I suspect the reasoning behind the one night camp, is because people will find it difficult to travel the long distances on the Friday evening.

That is very much a valid point, but then you have to way up whether it is worth travelling all that distance on the Saturday, just for a one night camp.

Just a few points to consider.

I think Jamie is right there....
How about just starting the camp on the friday evening, and ending on the sunday?

It's going to be more logical for people to travel on the friday evening, than first thing on a saturday morning. Some wouldn't get to the site till midday, and then half the camp has already gone!

All I've done is throw a few ideas down, if the majority want to go in Friday night no problem. For some of us travelling time will be a issue, I for instance will be travelling up from West Sussex and it will be about a 3-4 hour journey so it might mean taking time off work.(although I', planning to come up on the Friday anyway )

Yeah, I'll be at least 5 hours, so will be taking Friday off!

I think there is always going to have to be flexibility, with the distances people are having to travel

Oops, one thing I forgot to mention was that the camp is open to members of the Scout Association only.

In case any one had thought nothing has happened...I'm just finalising the last few details and all should be revealed this weekend. It's end of my companys financial year and I've been very busy with all that entails.
