    Scout IT! WordPress Theme

Hi folks! I've been doing some work on Ashley's (CaptainSlow) Scout IT! WordPress theme and it's getting close to being ready for release. Before we do, however, we'd really appreciate any volunteers to be 'beta' testers.

If anyone is proficient in WordPress and is able to try out a new theme, either on an existing installation or on a fresh install, could you please post below? There is *some* documentation, but you really need to have a little experience of WP before using it. Especially experience of installing themes. I will then PM you with the download.

The front-end of the theme can be viewed on my group website: http://scouting.geddington.org.uk/ or on the blank installation at: http://scoutit.greenpanda.co.uk/

Or, you can click this image for a screengrab of the homepage:

Not looking for comments on the design (I'm happy with that and that's not what I'm workign on) but any feedback or suggestions on functionality and features are welcome - I intend to expand this theme much more after it is released.

NB: Many thanks to Ashley for the help and for designing the theme and letting me play about with it.

Edited to list bugs and feature requests...

    Bugs reported:
    ---------------------------
B1. Widgets break homepage layout - When used without a title (or as default) the widgets miss out a closing div thus breaking the page layout. - FIXED in 2.2.2
B2. PHP errors on theme options page - “Warning: array_key_exists() expects parameter 2 to be array, null given” – FIXED in 2.2.1
    B3. Twitter widget not working
B4. Scout navigation menu - User report problems with scout section only (other work fine). – Cannot replocate error - need more info
B5. Editor styles not working - styles do not appear in page editor
B6. Footer menu not working - stopped working in WP3.2.2 - also Main menu - FIXED in 2.3

Feature requests / to do list:
    ---------------------------
F1. News page - Create a news page with last 10/15 posts and a separate sidebar with archives and feeds from other sauces.
F2. Events / calendar - homepage widget to show forthcoming events
F3. Site logo - Abilty to upload a new group logo via theme options (See: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/colorway) - ADDED in 2.2.2
F4. Social media widget - Widget with links to social media websites.
F5. Update Latest news Widget - add ability to exclude categories
    F6. Update TimThumb to V.2.8.10 - ADDED in 2.3

    Hi Jack,

I'd been really keen to give this theme a go. I've just logged in and taken a look and think it looks fantastic! I currently run our district website and was thinking that a redesign was due shortly.

i would get rid of that banner.

either pay the money for proper hosting or stick a small credit in the footer

Thanks. Hopefully when we're done it'll be suitable for groups, districts and counties.

Actually the banner is not included in the theme... ...yet. A banners plugin is on my list of "to dos". The plan is to allow groups to get someone to pay their hosting fees in return for a banner = a totally free website!

In a similar way, the programme page is also not included in the theme - that's a plugin I'm developing to integrate with OSM (my next project).

I'll give it a whirl mate, We've got a staging area we can test it on.

On a similar note, I'd look at the block colours in your sidebar, you've got 2 greens together

A nice addition would be to have the ability to change the group logo from the theme options via upload, I've seen a similar function in the "colorway" wordpress theme, is that something you'd be able to add?

Jack - that looks fantastic! Very well done!

It's nice and clean, colourful and I like the little "join the adventure" bit!

    Well done!

No worries. I've sent you a PM, but don't worry if you're not happy using it on your blog - a public release will be ready soon which will be safe to try

I have to admit, i'm overwhelmed with the comments that have come back about the layout/style of the Wordpress theme - and i'm extremely greatful for the work that Greenpanda has put in to this theme to make it much more functional and user friendly, without taking away the character of the original theme.

So once again a massive thank you to greenpanda!

Which leads me onto...greenpanda, did you get my last email? lol

Got it, yes - thanks. Will look into the Twitter widget - you're not the only one to have problems . I have a few bugs and errors now that people have spotted, so I'll try to get another version out soon with those fixed.

    Hi greenpanda,

Managed to sort the issue I had with menus out. It seems your code is the code for calling only one menu, not multiple menus - http://codex.wordpress.org/Navigation_Menus - Hope this helps
