How about Trent Lock in Long Eaton. 5 mins from M1 - 20 mins walk from station or very short taxi ride.

    Kitchen and dining room available.

Water activities are 6 per day or parttheeoff

Can offer canoeing, rafting sailing and archery subject to instructors being available.

Two nice pubs across the river and nice walks in the vicinity

rough costing including 2 days activities, kitchen and food would be 32

I would be very tempted by that in 2013. I don't think I could do 2012 as I only have one 'free' weekend between now and my wife going on Maternity Leave in August. I don't think I'll get a pass for a few months after that!

Forgot to add we're fully booked this year and would need to get a confirmed booking in by September - its a busy site because of our low prices.

------ Update --- The Following was Added within 30 Minutes of the above ---

and Dundee is such a friendly place, eapecially if Gavin is going to organise it.

I always thought the regional Ecamps would be the way to go anyway.

My Dad took his Ventures on an expedition in Scotland when I was about 4 months old leaving my mum to cope with a 4 year old, 2 year old and 4 month old at home (to be fair she thinks she had a relative come to stay and help)

Bad idea from my point of view. I'll be running a JOTI sleepover for our scouts.

i think if someone starts planning a meet/camp now then by the time they've accommodated 20 or 30 people postponing/changing dates they should be able to set it up for november 2017. possibly. you're not going to get everyone in one place at the same time so if someone wants to organise such an event then the best thing is pick a place and a time and go for it. for the last camp i went on i had 9 changes to the list of attendees before finally settling on 12 cub scouts the day before camp. for cub camp that's good; a leader camp would be far worse!

last time i went on one of these f2f was back in 2001, iirc. there was one before that but i missed it. there have been others since. i've heard of one before that, the non-escouts event in sunderland in august 1937 and before that the non-e-non-scouts event in smethwick in 1864. there's rumour of one before that in august 1485, but it was a big-fight weekend (on itv/sky?) and no one turned up.

i travel around some days - out today up north at the seaside - so if you want to meet just come over offer a left-hand shake and say: 'hi tarquin merryweather!'. if it's me i'll shake and say hi back, if it's not me.....well i'm sure you'll figure something out....at the least you'll have made another friend....maybe.

thing is...i've met loads of scouting people on here, i don't need a camp or a face-2-face meet to share scouting experiences with them. i've known ewan for a decade maybe, we've never met but we have shared experiences, thoughts, agonies, and many arguments here and there.

some day ewan and i will meet! not today though, i think, however, i bet i'll meet at least one escouter today! how will you spot me? simple: i look just like any other escouter! it's an added help if i'm out on my pink bike wearing my yellow jacket. so there's the challenge for you: find your nearest possible TM lookalike and say hello. it might just be me. (just pick a 'northern' seaside town today maybe!) it does work/happen. last time i met an escouter - not someone in my district, they're not even in my county! - was in the middle of the town hall, iirc.

as for the camp, put me down for a 30th anniversary of sorts, 17 november 2021. (but if you say meet in the car park at SX953795 i might have a spot of trouble getting there on my bike.)

    cordially yours, TM
