I like the word press theme. We do not have a website at the moment and would like to use word press. How do i go about using it for our group?

    Page ID required?

    Hi Chris
First of all, thanks for this. It is a great WP theme and presents a professional image.
I am sure that i will have many questions above and beyond what you have written in the guidance document, but first and foremost, you state that:
To prevent pages from appearing in the navigation bar, find out its page ID and enter that number into the header.php file just after “exclude” in the piece of code below, replacing the hashtags:

    <?php wp_list_pages('sort_column=menu_order&title_li&exc lude=##'); ?>
How do i find the page ID in idiot proof terms please?

Secondly, in which widget should i place the Wp-chgFontSize? I tried in 'accessibility' and nothing shows up except the widget title

    Thanks in advance,
    Martin

Go into wp-admin then 'Pages', 'All Pages' and if you hover over edit. This should display the URL. Find 'post=' and the number of that page is just after that.

Martin, I'm glad you like the theme.

You can find the page ID the address bar when you edit the page.

You have put the accessibility widget in the right place, but you need to set it up for it to work - the details will either appear at the bottom of the list on the left or under Tools.

Thank you both for your help Got it sorted thanks to you.
Now then, is it possible to hide the entire 'family' or should i plug in each page to be hidden?
    example:

    Parent: Programme
    Sub page : Beavers
    Sub Page : Cubs
    etc

You will need to add every page that you don't want to appear in the nav bar in that code.

    Hi,

Just started to play with Word Press for the first time, it's like trying to tie knots with boxing gloves on! Looking forward to playing with it.

I have added a page called join, it appears in the menu and the link points to www.2ndcrosby.org.uk/join but when I click on it or try to view it in the pages editor it can't find it.

    The error message is
    Not Found

The requested URL /join/ was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Also where do you edit the widgets?

    Thanks

    Rob

If it is the case, can we get this modification or a quick guide on how to do it?

    Chris,

Sorry if I'm being thick here - but what is "Wordpress"?

I'm guessing its some kind of website management system?

The theme certainly looks good, but in my ignorance I'm not sure if it's anything we can use or not (we have a bespoke php/mysql based website currently on a closed user group for our members.)

Not trying to be difficult - just genuinely not understanding what I'm looking at !

    Hi Chris,

First of all, fantastic job on the themes! They really do look amazing!

Couple of questions (although it's probably just me being blind and/or stupid)

    1) How do I edit the "Hello World", "Sections", "Fundraising", "Join the adventure" boxes under the content slider? I've managed to change the very first one in the purple box by creating a new post, but if I do it the same way to change the rest, it just overwrites the first one.

    2) Secondly, how do I edit the widgetised boxes?

    Thanks

Ah ha! - soemthing I can help with at last! (about time I paid back the help I have received so far.....)

    1) - you need to edit the 'main index theme' - you get to it from appearance / editor tab and chose fom the list on the right

    2) - from the widgets section in the appearance tab (I am assuming you mean the 6 boxes on the home page - they are listed main top 1,2&3 and main bottom 1,2&3)

hi all, can anyone please tell me how to go about setting this up for our group? i've been to wordpress.org, but it's not a stand-alone item, it needs hosting to install etc etc and i don't have a clue!

where can we get a free org.uk web server that will work with this?

    thanks in advance
