Scouts 4 WordPress theme and Brand Support released

    Over the last few months, I have been working on a secret project with Gilwell. We are now able to launch a brand new Scouting Theme 4 WordPress, called Scouts 4 WordPress.

    This theme is perfect for use by all Scouting organisations, and comes with a range of features including:

a dynamic content slider on the front page for news or other important information
six widgetised boxes (one specifically for Members Resources, such as programme details)
easy log-in access for leaders and parents
social media links and sharing capabilities

    Along with the theme itself, we have also been working on providing some branding text and images to make it even easier to set up and run your website. The images have been sized to be used with the Scouts 4 WordPress theme, but can easily be edited to other purposes.

    On the Branding Support page, you will also find a suggested website layout and what content could be included. You are not expected to reproduce this completely; the intention is that it gives you a helping hand and some text to get you started.

    Please let me know what you think!

    Nice Job Chris.

    My only comment (being very picky here) could the search box align with the main box below?

    I've tried poking it with Firebug quickly, but can't spot the css.style

    Great work Chris, Just been taking a look at the theme now.

    I love the new brand images which you have released, so I went ahead to try and intergrate them onto our district website. I've set them up with Wordpress Content Slide. I'm now having an issue that the drop down navigation appears behind the content slider - I notice this isn't the case on Scouts 4 Wordpress. What should I do to ensure that the navigation drop down appears infront?

    site is blaydondistrict.org.uk

    Many thanks

    The slideshow is set to a z-index of 1000 which means it will appear on the "top" of everything. You need to specify the z-index of your drop downs so that they have a larger value.

    I've just tested to following fix in firebug and it worked:

    if you can edit your theme files, go to wp-content/themes/[themename]/style.php and change (about line 73)
#page-bar li ul {
    left: -999em;
    position: absolute;
    width: 10em;
    }
to
#page-bar li ul {
    left: -999em;
    position: absolute;
    width: 10em;
    z-index: 1001;
    }

    ------ Update --- The Following was Added within 30 Minutes of the above ---

    Double-post to quickly say that the work that has gone into this theme is amazing. Also, I have found the brand guidance that ASLChris has put together very useful - big thanks!

    I LOVE the slideshow images and will have to find a way to work them into my site :)

    I think that you have set the front page to be a static page - change this in Settings > Reading.

    I love the theme Chris!

    One question, what is meant to show in the box below the header but above the text on every page?

    Thanks

    You add a picture here using the Custom Fields - follow the user guide to do this.

    It's on the page edit page - just below the content box. If it doesn't appear, click on"screen options" at the top.

    The theme looks great - only problem with it is that once installed (on a new WP installation) users are unable to logout as we just get a blank page, and we keep getting blank pages in the admin area when updating posts or pages.
    Any suggestions?
