    Chief Scout Gold Award

I'm surprised such a important badge hasn't got a topic of its own! So i want to start this topic by saying... I shall be receiving mine tonight! I'm really not sure what is going to happen as i shall be the first person in our troup ever to get the award! Does anyone know how the award is presented?

It depends on the group - I was just handed mine when we opened our new hall a year ago by the DC but my friend had hers at a district presentation and she also got a certificate.

    EDIT: Forgot to say, congratulations!

Ever DC will do it differently so I wont pre-guess what yours will do but enjoy.

I don't think that there is an "official" way of doing it, certainly none that I am aware of.

Personally I do a couple of things.

Firstly I like to take them by surprise if at all possible (it's actually quite sweet that most of the troop join in the programme because they like it rather than to gain badges), I will tip their parents off so that they are there but beyond that if they don't realise they've completed it I won't tell them till I give it to them.

Secondly I try to get someone from further up the food chain than I to present it, the GSL, ADC, DC that kind of thing.

Our county also has a special reception for Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond, Platinum and QSA recipients each year.

Over all though be proud of yourself whatever happens. If you are of scout age you are still quite young, and what you would have done to earn that award is above and beyond what the average 14 year old has ever achieved by a long long way.

    Congratulations!!!!

Not sure about the Gold, but in our District the DC comes down to present the Bronze and Silver Awards. Every year all those that have got awards go to the County Awards Evening at the Riverside Stadium and get a certificate.

    Bit late to this thread.

Our Scouts were presented with theirs by the ADC at our group presentation night in September. Then, they received a certificate at the Country Awards day

Congratulations on the award. If you were in Ashdown District this year we went to the new Amex stadium in Falmer for ours last Sunday. I doubt if the YP will ever forget it. I hope your district managed something similar.

Apart from the sectional presentations (which vary from award by SPL, to leader, to GSL, or the DC), our district has a big annual awards ceremony where we invite every CSA winner (Bronze to Platinum) in the district, together with families and their leaders to a Saturday evening presentation. We provide a free buffet meal, drinks, and presentations from the young members on their various activities over the year. This has proved a great success - we had over 200 at the last event in 2011.
