    Couple of Scouty passages

I think I've posted these before but can't find the original thread.I had some old Scouting magazines given to me a while back (by old I mean FHM size and paid for) and I went through them and cut out the best bits. I recently found the following passages that I laminated...

Many will be shocked to to find when the day of judgement nears,
That there's a special place in Heaven set aside for volunteers,
Furnished with big recliners satin couches and footstools,
Where there's no committee, chairman, group leaders or car pools,
No eager team that needs a coach, no bazaar or no cake sale,
And nothing at all to staple, not a thing to fold or email,
Telephone lists are outlawed, but a finger snap will bring,
Cool drinks and gourmet dinners and rare treats fit for a king,
You ask, 'Who'll serve these privileged few and work for all they're worth?',
Why all those who reaped the benefits and not once volunteered on Earth.

    (From a Harringey newsletter)

Walk on then and make your own destiny,
For the path you follow is made of bricks of choice,
It's direction is determined by the compass of free will,
    And the signpost of understanding,
It's route is unknown for the soul has no map,
Therefore we all step blindly into the future,
So take my hand and let me guide you through the darkness,
For I am wisdom and my hand friendship,
My feet are education and my heart is courage,
And my eyes can see no boundaries,
    I am Scouting.

Thanks for those. I actually have "I am Scouting" in my collection of thoughts for Cubs, but had no idea where it came from - at least now I can give it the appropriate credit.

I often read it (my memory is shot!) at a camp fire during the hummed verse of Kum Ba Yah.

Car Pools? What does it mean about car pools? What am I missing?

I really like the rest though :-)

Its a 'drive thro' swimming pool!
Might know it as lift share, kids taxi service.... one parent/driver fills the car up and makes the journey! When I do this my car breaks down

Ah - of course, thanks SuziQ :-) I feel your pain, my old MPV is on its last legs. I got stuck half way up the hill between Lynton and Lynmouth in Devon last Easter. Everyone got out and pushed and we still couldn't get up the hill. I had to freewheel down to the bottom and find another way round. I could spend 100's of pounds to get it fixed (the turbo's knackered) or just carry on planning any journeys we make very carefully, with special reference to hills, slopes, hillocks, etc :-(

Take 14 parents cars and a leaders car acting as a black ball, put them in a small space with limited exits acting as the table, add one more parent in a huge new 4x4 which they never wanted to drive and are not used to handling yet this is the white ball, give everyone a reason to want to leave quickly and there you have it, Carpool.
