actually a local spanish janitor would have come in handy.

i've still to do module 53: international janitorial skills so these trips abroad can be a bit challenging.

big problem came in the bathroom of the hotel. there was an extra one! well that was my thoughts at first sight but i soon worked it out: it was a foot-bath. hot summer days on the dusty spanish roads and your feet are going to get covered in muck and dust. what an excellent idea incorporating a foot-bath into the bathroom!

when i checked with hotel reception they called it el bidé, which i presume translates as the feet-washer?

lavé mis pies en el bidé!

I never thought I would compare myself with an Olympic Athlete, but reading the news today may be?

British Cycling drops Jess Varnish from Olympic programme on 'performance grounds' and denies it is payback for criticism

Too early as discussions are ongoing, but may be one day I will come back and post what has gone on. All I will say, having been involved in works tribunals, if this was work I would have a cast iron case of wrongful dismissal and now be laughing all the way to the bank.

The Scouts complaint procedures are not fit for purpose and we very much need some sort of independent body. At the moment we have to use the old boys club and none of these people are voted in so why would they want to upset the system. WB is an excellent example of this sometimes works very well and I’m not saying that a lot of these people are not excellent at what they do, but the lack of process brings it all into question.

Always look on the bright side of life and laughter is the best medicine.

My daughter has been getting involved in cycling events with British Cycling. She is faster than most of the boys but apparently she won't be able to go into a race team because they insist on single sex and there aren't enough girls to form a girls team. What are they on?

I hope in time you are able to reflect that you were part of creating what looks like a fantastic facility.

My dad would have similar satisfaction having resigned from scouting over something before they finished the building he designed. I thought it should have his name on it, maybe "The JohnW Toilet Block" but he demurred.

Why is it that when you agree to put on air rifle shooting (because you appear to be the only one around with a qualification) that all sorts of people who have a qualification, but hadn't owned up to it, turn up and criticise you?

Cause its easier to criticise than to do.

Had an ADC (Special duties) complain after the event that air rifles we were running was unsafe - three instructors all qualified and he wasn't - the finisher was when I asked DC why the ADC had not stopped us there and then to sort it out. We heard no more and Yes it was as per NSRA guidelines.

Cynically I'd suggest that's because its easier to send a moaning email after the event than gather the wotsits to make your case there and then - risking being made to look an idiot in public when the guys you are criticising turn out to know a lot more than you do!
Does anyone know what's going on?

Never heard of that one before! That sounds like a role for the square peg/awkward sod.

That happens with gardening too, except, the neighbours just think they have qualifications.

Reminds me of the Harry Enfield "You don''t wanna do that" character...
