Smoke shifters, to be used with the sky hooks, of course. Well, assuming they're carbon fiber telescoping. The brass ones are too heavy but they are steadier.

Some guy called Richard James has been flogging a spring to push down stairs. Made $50 million from it, apparently.

Apparently there were lots of good tents abandoned at the end of Reading festival today.

    Plus ca change

Honestly, I can see why they do it. They didn't work and pay for the tent in the first place, some had been there since Wed/Thu, insanely tired because there's always some scumbag playing bongos in a nearby tent, possibly hungover, and the weather Sunday was pure filth most of the day, and they probably aren't dressed for it*, theme park plastic ponchos hot pants and glitter, they're miserable because it's over. When it's the 30 halfords special I can doubly see why, it's part of the price of going. When it's the decent DofE tent mummy and daddy bought them, then that's a bit annoying, hopefully some local scout group will have filled their boots with the decent kit.

    * Two thing. I saw a post from one of my erstwhile explorers on instagram, a photo with some famouses, she *so* had her sensible DofE waterproof on. Good on her. My baby girl (16? 16!!!! When? What?) went on Saturday, and she'd put the pacamac she took on just to keep the wind off, she met a few friends from school there who were camping who said it was just really so very cold at night. Yes, that was me waiting at Reading station to drive her and her mate home. Luckily they didn't like any of the headliners Saturday so it was a pretty early finish for them.
