Scouts have better things to do with life than spend it locked in school.

    Hi Wayne

As we are one of the largest providers of high quality after school activities are there any plans to challenge Mr Groves increasingly bonkers ideas about ever longer school hours and every shorter school holidays ?

    Regards Tony

    Hi Tony,

We are certainly very actively promoting the benefits of non-formal education to Government and all the parties, coincidently I was reviewing earlier a transcript of the Westminster debate on youth services (worth noting there the supportive comments of the Ministerfor Civic Society, Nick Hurd, for what we do) and discussing with colleagues how we promote our views with similar organisations.

    thanks,
    wayne

    Thank You Wayne,

Can't help thinking there are some opportunities to position ourselves as supporting young people and their need for a life outside school, if we can time our response to the short gap between Mr Grove floating a sound bite policy and his withdrawing it.

Would it be possible to post a link to Nick Hurd's comments as he is one of our local MPs so like you has been lucky enough to have had the regular benefit of my opinions.

    Regards Tony

Sorry Tony, what we get is a subscription service (monitoring Westminster for references to key words like Scouts etc.) and, as such, I can't post it. He does however regularly reference what we do and the value of non formal education, not least of which because he leads on the NCS programme.
