I'd potentially be interested if you still have them John.

    John,

East Herts District would like one for the nights away courses and use by the explorers if you still have them!!

Because that old kit is still one of the best lighting solutions as it provides both heat and light making a nice warm light marquee at night and being light enough to carry around camp (and we even suspend them off a cross piece on our marquee's main pole)

Tilly lamps are one of the best portable light sources possible, we still use ours regularly on scout camps. We have recently acquired some bullfinches so the Tillys will get less use but they will still be used on some camps

Because many groups still use that kit?

Fire is the oldest way of cooking food and staying warm - we still use it do we not?

It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves

we recently serviced and repaired about 10 tilleys as they cost a fraction of the price to run compared to gas lamps, and over the course of a year is a substantial saving.

Because you can't always press a button and get light. Using a Tilley teaches the basic skill for lighting any pressure lantern or stove. Even a MSR Dragonfly opertes on more or less the same basis as a Tilley. There is a certain skill, a mystique, a lore that goes with old skills. Much of it transferable. Like tracking. Who the heck tracks nowadays? But in fact we all do, every day. just that we don't realise that we are looking for signs and following clues. Old skills are very much transferable most of the time. Or maybe, simply enjoyable.
