    Cubjam 2016 is launched...

    "Howdy folks!*
    *
Are your budding Cowboys and Indians ready to celebrate the Cub Scout Centenary with hundreds of new friends at Cubjam 2016?*

All the latest news and information is now on the updated website at www.cubjam.org.uk, and bookings are now open.

There will be much more (including fundraising ideas, working with the media help and ideas for badge work on our Wild West theme, all tied into the Cub Scout Centenary) added in the coming months so check back for updates.
    *
As always spaces are limited so we suggest you register your interest in bringing a contingent as soon as possible, nearly 500 spaces have already been booked since we launched at lunchtime today!*
    *
Not interested in bringing a contingent but like to help make the fun happen? Then why not register your interest in being a volunteer as part of the Cubjam team instead?
    *
Let's get those wagons ready to roll........"

Not having been to one of these sorts of events before, I have little idea what happens and how. Can anyone enlighten me based on their experience?

    Martin,

It is difficult to know where to start! It is a jamboree for Cubs organised by Hertfordshire, but is open to contingents from across the country. We went to the previous ones in 2009 & 2013 and had a great time - I can't recommend it highly enough!!

You'll get a good idea from having a good trawl through the website posted upthread and you can have a look at this thread to get a better idea http://www.escouts.org.uk/forum/thre...jam-2013/page8.

We have already booked our places for 2016!!!

If you have got specific questions that you can't find the answer to on the website, please feel free to drop me an email (baloo at 2ndbracknell dot org dot uk) and I'll do what I can to answer them.

I'll second that. We went for the first time in 2009 and couldn't wait for 2013 after that and can't wait for 2016!

And after the success of our "Pop up Pirate", my team are convinced that we need to build a "Bucking Bronco" as our pièce de résistance!

Why is Cubjam at Gilwell again???

Would it not be better "touring" Walesby in Nottinghamshire could accommodate it and I'm sure there are many other sites.

Much as I like Gilwell despite the vandalism to the buildings on the Square Its not the center of the Uk .

No idea really, but I suspect that one reason may be that it is organised by Hertfordshire Scouts, and I suspect that quite a few of the leaders there will be providing staff/organisers etc. and Gilwell is reasonably accessible for them. I am sure they would be willing to offer advice and assistance to the leaders from any other County, if they wanted to set up something similar "up North".

Thanks Peter, I remember having a similar discussion before about this and that is my recollection of the reason. I'd love to get involved in organising something like this but need to get more experience first myself
