    Ecamp 2006

Take 10 people from all over the UK who met over the internet through a free web hosting service for UK Scouts and throw them into a muddy campsite in Staffordshire and what do you get Escouts Ecamp 2006. What a good time was had by all. Escouts celebrating it's 5th Birthday by doing what Scouts do best, getting out there camping. All of us got along like old friends after a few minutes (after we sussed out who was who).

Saturday the four brave or foolish went off to Alton Towers where they were suitably thrilled by various hair raising rides. The other five went in search of the source of the river Dove (and we found it !) and after getting blown (literally) off Chrome Hill did the tourist thing wandering around Buxton, looking for a internet café! (well we are Escouts)

In the evening we sloped off the the "Rose and Crown" the nearest public house where we sampled Stockport's finest Robinson's ale. The landlord did us proud with the food which was to a very high standard. It was really good to be able to welcome Jon to our ranks for the evening. Richard gave us a brief history of Escouts and a small look to where the Escouts Team want to go with Escouts. (watch for more information soon)

Sunday, after breaking camp we had to say our goodbyes with the resolve
that this wouldn't be the first and last Ecamp and talked about next year

On a personal note I'd like to say thanks firstly to Robin without whom I wouldn't have been able to get there and as always gave me great support. Richard and Jon for making a exceptional effort to attend, Mark and Richard for being taxi's on Saturday, 1st Ifold Scout Troop whose equipment got stolen for the weekend!(thanks Tim and Andy) and last but not least everyone who came and made it a great event.

all in all it is just another brick in the wall

Yeah I said it last night, but I'll say it again:

A huge, huge thanks to Dave for all the organisation of the event. With the exception of the baltic weather, I had a fantastic time

It's great to actually put faces to usernames, and actually talk to real people.

In April 2001, when I thought of the idea of giving free hosting to Scouting with No ads and No pop ups I never thought, 5 years down the line we'd meet up in the Midlands and take part in a camp

Its also very important to remember the very important role Jon has played in being the real backbone of the project, when I had taken a rest from Escouts for a few months, Jon was single handidly paying for an expensive dedicated server.

The real strength in Escouts is not just the actual Actual Escouts Team, the awards team, the moderators, Escouts Route Hiker or the Badges Project. Its the fact that many Scouts are willing to help other Scouts.

I suppose in the end Escouts is about Scouts helping Scouts. Something that Scouts do well.

Escouts is has had an interesting first 5 years, but there is a willingness to more formalise the dedicated support to thousands of Scouts in the UK, by creating a Escouts Fellowship, we will be persuing that.

So happy 5th birthday , and here's to the next 5 years!
