    Is dixie dead?

A while ago, there was talk of a new website. We had access to the UAT site and it generated lots of group web pages, for example, this one: wrong contact info, weird quotes from people not associated with the group.

it was supposed to sort out factsheets and have a decent interface - instead we have a site full of dead links, old links and just plain wrong information.

anybody know what happened to it... ?

dixie is being replaced from what I've heard

Rule 66. A map and compass offers no protection against getting horribly lost.

Why's that? Did someone forget to soap it before putting it on the fire?

If TSA has invested in an IT project and then abandoned it, one has to ask who authorised the expenditure in the first place and whether they should do the honourable thing....

Basic project management technique. There should have been a Project Initiation Document, which would have provided the rationale and business case for the project. There should have been a Project Board, with at least two members, filling three roles. They should have had regular reviews of progress, and "Gateway Reviews" at critical stages, where a decision would be made on whether to continue or not.

I suspect there was such a process, and one of the reviews by the project board may have concluded that the project would no longer meet the need, or satisfy the rationale - and abandoned the project. It's very common for this to happen, and is "the honourable thing."

It would be nice if there was some communication as to the association's future intent for the want-to-join process on the web.

The current setup with pages and pages of boilerplate content for every group in the country, and a form that doesn't supply adequate information for the local designated content to provide sensible answers, is a terrible mess.

Given that the project must have cost a lot of money - are the trustees content that they went into the project with their eyes open and how are they going to avoid repeats?

As Girlguiding "Go!" is based on the same back end as Compass, and they have their own want-to-join system, could we perhaps enter talks with them to licence it?

    It isn't. Totally different supplier.

The only thing in common is that both offload the DBS functionality to Atlantic.

Wonder where I got that from then? I know DBS is Atlantic but I thought Go! was also from the supplier of Compass.

    I stand corrected.
