Wasn't it supposed to be derived from a vanilla commercial product? Has that commercial product been off line for a year?

What's the betting they didn't see fit to tell their customers? Or claimed it was specific to the scouts implementation if asked?

At some point they'll release a new version with some new features that will incorporate the security updates on the quiet.

that product did not have web interface that had to be accessed by 100,000 adult leaders and a further 800,000 parents.... if you add in the kids who could access their own records... TSA launched a product that had previously had a handful of users and expected it to work out of the box with a million users... and were surprised when permissions went tits up.

my understanding is that the web interface was bespoke for us... one of the problems?

some of the permissions were worked out in the browser... so the server looked at the browser and it said: "i am a gsl" and the server gave gsl access...

    but!

it is very easy to edit what is happening in the browser. i do it all the time to test web coding.

so... if i change my website colour from green to purple, i can test it first.

what if you do the same thing but change your access from GSL to another role...?

the server looks at the browser.. the browser says "i am an HQ staff member" and the server gives access.

That - i think... was one security problem.

There isn't a vanilla commercial product that supports membership management exactly as the Scout Association requires it. A lot of the issues were around trying to bend a commercial product (designed with a top-down management structure) to fit the SA structure.
