    Compass Report

So in response to MikeGH request of 9/9 to the UKCC to learn when "THE compass report" will be published we get a reply yesterday advising that the intention is to publish a progress report in due course!

    Why am I not surprised?

It was never going to be published by this management.

As is often the case, the truth is always more disappointing than idle speculation.

A shame then that the speculation is even necessary?

To some extent I'm not particularly bothered about any report - I've had ample to moan about in the past and it's no secret that earlier this year it was one of the factors that resulted in my time out of the movement.

Whatever the content I'm sure most Scouters will be more concerned that whatever returns is up to a usable standard.

Surely, Mr Chief Commissioner Sir, if it is only often the case then it cannot always be more disappointing. <* Backs away bobbing head and touching fetlock *>

To be fair if the Trustees on considering the report decided that it left significant questions unanswered, it would be pretty pointless publishing it immediately just to assuage the desire for it. Better to send the authors back to finish it properly and hopefully we then get a report that informs us of what we need to know.

I'm however with Mark above - my interest in what/why/how it went wrong has long since waned. At some point as a humble ACSL the youth part of it will cross my path again at which point lessons had better have been learned. Until then I've got adventures to devise!

so another 3 months later, did this ever turn up? Not sure whether they're hoping we've reached the forgotten about it stage, but I could do with a laugh.

There was never any intention to publish. The key people who made mistakes are still in role. The will remain so as commissioners stick together .its mates looking out for each other. No alternatives will have been considered. TSA are wedded to making compass work and would have said to the supplier sort it. The leadership has key people stating theve IT knowledge. Why are they still involved? What safeguards have been put in place.why were other strategies not considered?

This was why I viewed the post in November by Hamish Stout with a certain amount of scepticism and a slight feeling of resentment at being told what to do.

Not sure of his exact position but he's been around for quite a few years, so I'm sure that he must have been involved in Compass from the start.

[Edit] Not sure that he was involved that much in Compass, before being appointed RC - whilst CC he was instrumental in getting the County to agree to pay for all sections to use OSM gold, if they wished!

So why is the Regional Commissioner for the SW living in Berkshire doing Compass?

And according to LinkedIn, "During 2015 (and into 2016) Hamish supported the development and introduction of a significant new membership management system to the Scout Association."

No mention of how well it went...
