    I do get the feeling that Gilwell are hoping we all forget about the debacle.

    Not good enough.

    The way people locally were whipped into submission to meet absurd deadlines to feed data into a patently unworkable system still makes me very cross.

    but the system was fine... it had been extensively tested and worked well...

    it was only taken down because of a security glitch. Compass was fine otherwise... we kept being told so...

    I didn't bother whipping until I discovered that we were the lowest completion rate in teh county so I wrote a S***agram to the entire district expressing my confidence in the system (after all if some districts were at 80% why couldn't we do so), but recommending that try to use it outside the busiest hours. That night it failed for 2 hours, same following day, worked a day then went down for good. I told our CC that I would never put my reputation on the line again to press the leaders to use the system.

    i too would like to see a/the report soon. if one has been completed, why has it not been published?

    people do need to know why their efforts were seemingly wasted.

    people do need to know what's currently happening and what is to happen.

    people do need to know why they were asked to push hard for others to complete processing when there was great uncertainty and empty promises of things working.

    some people are due an apology.

    i was guilty of completely ignoring any and all requests to do with entering youth data into compass. i saw little or no support, just a big encouraging stick. i did spend some time collecting youth data. not all wasted as it did help me to update my records but still....

    if it's too good to be true then it probably is.

    I am in two (or more) minds about this.

    Why waste further effort trying to pin them down on this, I (and you) have better things to get on with.

    On the other hand

    They need to be held to account, not only for making such a mess in the first place but also they have said they would publish, and as we all know, a scout is true to his/her word.

    What we really want to know is what is now in place to try and prevent a similar debacle happening again. All very well our Wayne saying "lessons have been learnt", but what were those lessons? how were they taught, and how will those lessons be passed on?

    How can you forget hours of keying data again? Even aspirin, shouting at the wife or kicking the dog do not help - I was last told by the team that I could expect a reply to my problem in 8 weeks; anyone else had that? Shame is I seem to have lost that email - should have printed and framed it. Still Wayne paid the price!

    The underlying issue to me is whether the resources of the Scout Association are currently being used to effect to support the membership, or being squandered through further lack of competence. We, as members of an association, should be provided with the evidence to be able to make that determination.
