Never crossed my mind to do so and if I was a potential volunteer looking for a volunteering opportunity it would not be somewhere I would think to look

Loads of charities advertise for volunteers on gumtree... used to do it in another organisation with varying levels of success

Marc Cattle recruited successfully though Gumtree.

I tried his advert, reworked to our locale and got three responses.

The first lived 10 miles away, didn't have a car and wondered if we could pay her expenses.
    The second, wanted paid.
The third, when questioned, was about as suspect as they come and was disuaded from applying.

The advet was 100 per cent clear that this was an unpaid voluntary position...

This was one of the bit of advice we got from the development officer that was employed for a spell in our area. Gumtree is a bit hit or miss at the best of times, it's also riddled with ne'er do wells in some locales.

It just felt wrong to me.

We got a fabulous leader from Gumtree. It was free for a set period then you could pay to extend it.
