You see, my Wife objects big time to photos of our Cub Son and Beaver Daughter being published in public (or even closed groups - she has no trust in the Internet). This has gone to the extent of asking firmly for a really great photo to be removed from the school website. I know that she does have her reasons, irrational though they may be.
Like I said, i've never had a parent upset about our use of photos of children.

As a parent myself now, I have no issue with photos of my daughter being posted online, and to put my money where my mouth is:

That is one cute photo Dan

Have you got the 'Beaver In Training' babygrow?

As Dan's OH is a Guider, I suspect it's hanging next to the "Rainbow in Training" babygrow!

No - we have however got 3 babygrows with "born to scout" badges on them - a present from the GSL of a neighbouring group.

We will be ordering the smallest possible size of group t-shirt in the next group clothing order as well!

I'm not saying my OH will ever move fully across from the dark side... but she does now have two Scouting roles as well

I find it frankly disgraceful that you've allowed the photo of that penguin to be uploaded without putting a paper plate over its face.

    Just to stir

A photograph or image is the property of the person who took it. The individual or parent has no claims on it.

    What we did last week...

I had a mild panic attack at the beginning of the night when the SA did not show and I already knew ASL would not be there (it was his 21 birthday). But fortunately a parent stepped in.

    We also did knife safety.

I had the scouts come up with their own safety rules. They were pretty close to the YouTube clip I showed them. It was a horrible USA thing, but did have 14 snappy rules and good photography.

Then a quick quiz on an A4 sheet of paper.

Followed by a discuss on whether a metal Afro comb is a bladed article. Fortunately my background is such that I can waffle on about offensive weapons etc.

We were finished by 8:15. He still had half the evening to fill! Do games.

It is a shame I didn't have enough support as I could have done with talking through personal challenges with a few of them. But then again we purposes put the easy night on B's 21st as we knew we were going to be short.

This week is going to be a challenge. 23 scouts cooking and the GSL has just informed me we are probably out of gas.

Hmm. We have over eight triangias in the stores. I have meths. We could do that.

But I still need gas. Next week is county cooking competition and this Sunday we have a practice for it. I think it would be unfair to practice on something other than gas.

    Back on thread...

The Scouts made and cooked (?) burgers this evening and served them with oven cooked fries (which the leaders provided). We had some interesting presentations but they managed to resist adding chocolate, chilli or excessive garlic to the mix.

Luckily we did not have to taste them since we had a "victim" in the form of a visiting cub leader from America who, being from the home of burgers, was fully qualified to judge. Stags (red six grown up) managed to win with burger not consisting of beef!

A good evening and a great chance to share with a colleague from the states how there are different ways to deliver a youth scouting experience. If you think we are struggling to be youth shaped then they have a bigger challenge!

Tonight at Scouts we made paper geodesic domes, inspired by ianw's thread here.

Filled a whole evening very well.

Tonight we had some Scout leaders in to lead a Cub night. Went fantastically well I must say. A great game about Ruppees and bags. The winner is the first team to make enough Ruppees to survive for a day.

    Nobody won.

We were working on Teamworking tonight. Set some challenges, including Kelly Kettle lighting. Also played Hungry Hippos for the first time - Wow great fun.

Last night we went up to the woods for a wide game - Escape from Colditz

Each patrol was given an "allied" nationality and had to find 4 secret agents (leaders) hiding in the woods, without being caught by the Gestapo (YLs and PLs)

Really good evening - they got caught loads of times becuase they didnt seem to grasp the concept of being quiet / not shining bright torches everywhere, but they enjoyed it! Myself and a couple of other leaders were refereeing and didnt have to deal with a single dispute or issue
