    Scout Active Support

I really want to get back into Scouting. I miss it loads and I'm too old for Network now, but I don't have the time to give over to being a section leader at the moment (3 jobs and a Masters degree will do that). So I'm looking at Active Support so that I can offer archery sessions to groups in Bristol, but I'm struggling a bit with finding the contact. Should I be contacting County or District (Think I'm in Bristol Brunel)?

I also need to get my qualification turned into a permit as this never quite managed to happen before I left Bath. I'm definitely not looking to join what would have been called the Fellowship when my grandad was in it so to speak, might be a bit old for Network, but I'm a little too young for that....

In our case, I THINK it's a district provision. The contact and meeting venue/times are shown in our district directory. Do you have anything like this? It might be worth talking to your DC.
All posts represent my own opinions only. In no way do they speak for anyone else, including (but not limited to) my group, district, county or HQ.

We have a District based SASU. As said before ask the DC for contact details.
To get more kids we need more adults - are we getting the message yet?

In my former group, we were fortunate to have a Group SASU! This was made up of former leaders, and other supporters, who for various reasons weren't able to commit to a full time role - between them they had various permits/qualifications (narrowboating, climbing and shooting but sadly no archery) and would assist the leaders with these activities when asked. They would also make up most of the catering team at group camps and the like.

Have asked one of my colleagues who is a Cub Leader somewhere in Bristol. I think they are Cabot district but not sure. Hopefully they might be able to get hold of someone to ask!
Does anyone know what's going on?

Hmm, seems my only option is getting involved at group level again. Not sure how I feel about that as my time is so limited!

Even if an Activities SAS doesn't exist at district/county level they should at least be able to add you as a District/County Scouter or a Skills Instructor to allow you to hold membership and gain a permit.

Have you tried talking to your local DC? (i have her email address if you need it)

There is also a county archery section, who may be worth talking to (again let me know if you want contact details)

Yeah I've been in conversation with her, I think the concern is Brunel being a large district and me not driving (constant stumbling block!)

Details for the County Archery Section would be fantastic, yes please.

PM on its way to you.

Brunel is a fairly large district, but its almost entirely within urban areas with good bus routes.

We formed a 'Target Shooting ASU' in our District - you could make an offer to your DC to start one of your own!
