Gone Home - One of the Old Team

This morning, I received a mesaage from Alan Yates in Canada, bringing some sad news.

Many of us will remember the verbal wars that were had with Karl Pollack back on UKRS. My information is that Karl recently passed away.

Karl Pollack was one of the few who was brought up in Eastern Europe but who ended up before the Velvet Revolution, living in Canada. His experiences coloured his views and Karl was in every way a fundamentalist in Scouting. He stuck to his guns and no amount of debate would change his views.

He was a main contributor to "The Dump", and his legacy to Scouting will be those boys that he brought through Scouting and his library of Scouting material that can be found in "The Dump".

I shall miss my exchanges with Karl. He was, a black and white type of chap, and we have to respect him for that, regardless of our differences. For those who knew and had exchanges with Karl Pollack. A moment's thought for his passing. Thank you.

Sad to hear - the Dump is a great resource and he was clearly a man of his principles

this is very sad news. KP was a very obstinate chap with forthright views and very little give but nevertheless honest and open and you always knew where you stood in debates with him. he was never one of my favourites on ukrs but that doesn't mean i lacked respect for him. You knew you were always in for a tough battle when the chap from richmond sea scouts, british columbia popped up on ukrs!

a moment's pause in remembrance is owed to him.

    very sad.

I used to post regularly on Uk.rec.scouting and had a number of discussions with Karl.

I had a lot of respect his conviction of his views, which is often lacking in many people.
