    Challenges

I'm planning a challenge morning for cubs in their sixes as part of a camp coming up. I'd like some different challenges that take maybe 20 minutes / 30 minutes that they can complete.

    For example:
Make a cup of tea with foil and a candle to boil the water.
    Or
Make a parachute for an egg to be dropped from 2m

I'm then out of ideas! I'd like some more if anyone has any please.

    Thanks

Make a pyramid out of buckets without touching any of the buckets with your hands - give them some rope, bungee cords, sticks, and so on.

Construct a water filter and successfully turn some muddy pond water to clear (and boil it afterwards, if they want to drink it!)

Get from one side of the room to the other using a specified amount of limbs in your teams (e.g. 6 legs, 4 arms and 2 legs). More points for however many of them they manage to complete.

This works better than I expected it would if you provide some play sand.... But expect the *make* part to take around 30 mins, and the "wait to have enough water to see if it's clear" part to take an hour or so.......

We managed to make them with Beavers in about 15 minutes (although we'd pre-cut the bottles) and we then put them to the side for 15-20 minutes while we played a game. When we came back to them we could definitely see which ones had worked and which hadn't.

Yeah, I could be exagerating a little But You defiantly want that "go off and do something else while it filters" in the plan. We did it with cubs incidentally, and gave them very little instruction other than "This is a bottle, this is some sand, these are some rocks, you're outside, use what you can find and make this horrible water clean.". Was very good fun.

The water filters can be done in half an hour, although we took linger because we used bits of an old T-shirt, charcoal, sand and gravel, and talked them through what each part did before they started. The water was out of my rain butt, full of mosquito larvae and stained blue from the old towel I had hung in it so the bees could drink. Some of the filters were very good.

An alternative is to make towers from A4 paper, no glue or tape. We have got up to 6 feet high, but it's best done indoors!
