    Tim Lott Guardian

Sorry I didn't point out Tim Lott wrote an article in the Family column of the Guardian on 12th May.

    Cambridgeskip clearly spotted it

Nowt controversial I think. The fact it's only really gathered 3 comments says it all.

Ii feel it would be nit picking to point out that investiture in the scout section isn't the pinnacle of the scouting experience, as there are two other sections after scouts. However the Guardian and the BBC do seem to have difficulty reporting the Explorer and above accurately.

    It's a bit of a non-article and a load of waffle, really.

    so do HQ!

you can't find explorer units via the "find a group" section on the scout website

I'm impressed that someone can make a living as a Guardian commentator, without doing any research on the subject he writes about. I'm even more impressed that he's prepared to send his son to at least four years of Scouting, without bothering to ask himself why he's doing it. I should apply for that job.

I think if you wanted to play a game of "let's wind up the scout leaders" without being at all offensive and topping it off with a thanks to the leaders, then that column hits the nail on the head. I'm pretty sure he knows that his kids was a Cub when shouting "We will do our best" not a Beaver.....

In a similar vein, a good friend and browney leader pushed the guides thing today on facebook saying "I think my favourite badge would be DIY." I managed to stop myself sending her a link to the Cubs DIY activity badge with a note saying, "Come on, join the dark side."

Should have. Or maybe "we've got one already, perhaps we should merge?"

It looks like Girlguiding are revamping some of their programme. There was a report on Breakfast TV this morning, and the BBC news site has a few items about their new badges.

Good luck to them. I haven't had the time or inclination to check the usual gutter press for a reaction.

I admit that I did have to Google to find out what 'upcycling' is though. I also think that their new Vlogging badge may be 'interesting' given their seeming aversion to publishing to the web (especially photos and videos).

Video blogging. In my limited experience, YP tend to refer to them as 'YouTubers'.

Basically, recording yourself saying or doing stuff and sticking it on youtube. Leaves me cold but it's quite the thing with da kids.

Yeah, a few people (who are household names with many YP) have made an absolute fortune out of it. In our house its Dan TDM, Stampy and Pat & Jen. My Son would rather watch them than normal TV. In my daughters case, its someone called Jojo Siwa.

we helped at an event at the weekend, a cameraman was there

the scouts asked me if they'd be on TV, I said they'd probably be in youtube (as it was clearly an in-house cameraman)

they were more excited about being on YT than TV.
