    Dining Shelter/ Tent parts

Just brought some new dining shelters whose spikes to go through the eyelets in the canvas are welded to the top of the poles and appear to be made of cheese. Three bent first time troop put them up.

If they snap off we will have to bore out the top and replace them, does anyone know if the spikes are manufactured as a plug-in type ?

We occasionally have to replace the spikes in our wooden tent poles due to them bending or going loose and falling out, we cut steel rod of about the right diameter to the correct length and then use Araldite glue to stick the spikes into the pole

We had this a few years back with metal poled dining shelters - I used 3" nails with the points filed/cut down and set them in plaster padding (for those of us that had rusting cars in the 1980s it was the stuff we rebuilt our cars with)

We have had ones that are embedded in rubber and jammed into the pole. We've already had the rubber fail on one and no obvious way to fix it. but the spikes had bent first.

Don't suppose they are BCT dining shelters? Have had no end of problems with theit poles which is a shame because their old steel ones are still going strong . Spikes in particular appear to be made of chinesium and put in with plastic, they sent replacements but they broke on the first use too. I ended up fixing them myself with steel rod and fixing them in with wood and glue.

What diameter are the poles? You can get pole inserts with spikes from many caravan/camping shops, would they do?
