    Twitter

    For information ...

Twitter has changed their rules regarding the naming of a Twitter account. Where you have a long Group / Unit name you will probably now be able to use your full Group / Unit name in your Twitter account rather then abbreviating it.

The 'username' (the @whatever name) is not changing and remains restricted to 15 characters.

The 'display name' has changed from a maximum of 20 characters to a maximum of 50 characters.

This change means that your 'display name' can change from 999th Anytown Scouts to 999th Anytown (St Something) Scout Group.

The username remains unchanged, so the URL is also unchanged. The Group etc will be easier to find on Twitter and the full name will be shown where referred to in tweets.

If you want to change your Twitter 'display name', from a computer:
    - log in to your Twitter account
    - select 'edit profile' beneath your large logo to the right of screen
    - on the left of the screen change your 'display name' where it is shown
    - then click 'save changes'

Don't forget, Tweets can now be 280 characters long.

    Thanks.

I run atleast 16 twitter accounts, and on a couple I have had to shorten a name - either by abbreviating words, removing spaces, or some other condensing method.

I wouldn't have known about this if I hadn't seen this post, so i'm now off to lengthen a few display names on twitter.
