I wouldn't considering any Commissioner role a "promotion"; just a different way of volunteering.

I told him you'd all moan about my post

I think he has done a good thing taking on the role!

    Right and Proper......

What good fortune have we in Our Movement with having those whom by their example inspire.

Having an ACC for Scouts with vision, expertise ,flair, compassion and a plan for Scouting in the future is a wonderful aim.

However in the meantime until such a person comes along Paul will do very well.

    Congratulations

    Dr.Stu..

Good luck in the new role... whether its a promotion, or a sign that you didn't run away fast enough - i'm sure you'll do a great job!

I sit on my hands during Leader meetings, saves you from accidentally putting your hand up to volunteer to do something without thinking about it first

I bet there are people here with great stories about how they turned stuff down and how difficult/awkward it was.

I suppose, I'm being a wee bit hypocritical too. I often complain about Explorers , when you ask them to do stuff - you're met with an ocean of blank faces attached to bodies that seem to be doing their best to fold themselves away from this plane of existence... We probably look the same at district AGM's etc...

The trick is, to be a wee bit ornery/scary so you're just not considered... Obviously though, its a fine balance.

Some of my Explorers and couple of ex-explorers visiting over Christmas decided to have a conversation about how forbidding and intimidating I can be...

I said it's just the time of the year. They said no, you're like that all the time.

    Fair enough.

On the other hand, there may be a Cc or DC with the gumption to realise that what is needed is that ornery/scary individual to make change happen... maybe someone out there has an eye on you for a bigger role
