Is it true that the new logo looks like a sword with wings ?

That's not a sword. It's a white plank with a black end pointing out of the picture.

It would be easy enough to paint on the side of a sub, you just need water proof paint.

Yes, exactly. I honestly was trying to poke a stick in my own eye.

The real issue for me is that the BSA has lost control of its message. The fact that UK Scouts is trying to control their message is admirable. It seems to me that the general public in the UK know the message so it's not such a big deal. I tell people I'm in scouts and the response is usually surprise that the BSA still exists. Many that do know about the BSA still think we spend most of our time marching and preparing kids for war. We actually do have fun in the outdoors. I realize it doesn't sound like a big deal but a stupid logo that conveyed the right message would imply that just maybe there were people in charge that knew what that message was.

Anyway, best of luck with your "sword with wings."

    Snap. Snap. Snap.

The "gosh does scouts still exist?" is a regular occurance this side of the pond too. And when/if you go co-ed, you can look forward to "they have girls in scouts now?" when someone sees ummm, girl Boy scouts out and about for a few generations, though with the profile of girl scouts, maybe it'll be some comment about cookies.

Reminds me of one of my all time favourite moments in Scouting. Male Scout with long blonde hair was bag packing at our local supermarket, lady whose bag he is helping to pack makes a comment "oh I didn't know they had girls in Scouts now", Scout replies "Yes they do, but I'm a boy". The look on the lady's face was priceless.

The way its reported in the media makes it look like the World organisation of the scout movement logo is changing, this one

    its not.
For reference this is a can of fly spray

This is the logo of the company that makes it

This is the current UK Scout Association logo, which apparently is changing

Im not sure on what the logic is in changing it, licencing reasons?, people getting confused with fly spray?
or maybe as a reason to generate media attention, by saying look at us and our shiny new logo just like the attention seeking Beaver/cub/Scout that wont shut up, and has noting much to say about anything that hasn't already been said.

One thing a logo change will do is annoy those groups who have the current logo on their T -shirts ( which they have just made a fresh run of for the forthcoming summer/warmer season) on their minibus ( if they are lucky enough to have one) websites, and any other such stuff.
Some will jump straight into the new brand and adopt it, more will make some attempt and not quite get it there, most will ignore it, and carry on with the old/current logo in whatever colour combination they like, or just keep on using whatever they are using now.
As it is, a logo change is just a load of bluster over nothing, something to generate noise, and irritate, the logo is not that important, if a letter is typed out in times new Roman, with a round scout logo in black at the top left does it matter if its not on brand?
what counts is what happens at a local level, where a vast majority couldnt give a monkeys about some logo change and P.R double speak - and with that Im off to get ready for tonight's Scout meeting - were making slime

Exactly that point. We have two newish sail banners, plus other signage along with recent group t-shirts & hoodies all using existing (and older) branding. We can't afford to renew those until they wear out nor can we expect parents to but new t-shirts just because the brand has changed.
Other items like website, FB etc that don't cost will get changed when/if we find the time to do so, probably over Christmas/New Year slow down.

No-one is asking you to nor will they expect it.

A review of the Scout brand is now well underway. Proposals for a new brand position, logo and visual identity are currently being tested and will go to our Board for approval in March 2018.
Hmmn; wonder how the presentation to the board went...?

They're probably just inking up the rubber stamp.
To get more kids we need more adults - are we getting the message yet?
