    Delay between compass and DBS

So for ages now I've done all our CRBs on a laptop at the hut, no forms needed and no delays. Win win.

However the last 2 times I've had a problem, where previously I request a new disclose in compass I then log in to Atlantic and it's sitting there waiting, it's now taking more than 24 hours to arrive. Which is a bit embarrassing when your volunteer expects to get it all done then and there.

    Anyone else having this problem?

Last one I did was a couple of days before Christmas, I didn't have that problem.

Normally when I do it, if I set up a new compass record then from the disclosure screen select request new DBS, I am taken to the Atlantic log in site where I log in and after choosing my role I am asked whether I want to process the DBS now or send an invite by email for them to do it.

Select either option and when completed and log out of Atlantic the Compass record updates to show what a DBS is in process. (cant remember the exact words).

Thanks that's correct as to how it should be. But on logging into Atlantic, there were no DBS's pending. The last 2 have both taken over 24 hours to arrive..

This keeps happening for me and it's really annoying. I asked the info centre and they just said 'yes allow 24 hours', but that's nonsense because sometimes it's instant.

As a matter of interest, last DBS I had personally, back in July, took over 4 weeks to arrive through the post, which was very long indeed, I don't know if anyone else has suffered these delays.

It appears to me there are two mechanisms for getting it across - the overnight batch job and direct login. So it appears straight away if the "punch out" works, but if it doesn't you have to wait.

Probably at that time of year it would be because schools doing theirs for the next school year and as they pay and there is a lot of them they will take priority.

Add to that people going on holiday so fewer staff in the DBS offices?

I haven't had to do one since June, but never had an issue with them before EXCEPT where it was for someone under 18 or for someone who was not starting their appointment until today or in the future.

If they have been in the past no problems.

I think it also depends on the individual (maybe there's a background check somewhere).

Last bank holiday I drove round to our new GSL's house to DBS him and the link didn't work on time - I had to use a paper form then put him on compass later.

Whilst hoping that the GSL's details would arrive I input our new ASL, who was previously a YL with me. His details popped up on the DBS system immediately so I was able to complete my day by going round to his house and doingthe DBS. The GSL's details arrived when I checked the next morning.

As usual, we have no certainty about anything working with Compass.

Ok, so if anyone cares I have found out exactly what was causing this problem.

Basically if you log into compass only and request DBS then it opens Atlantic for you and all is well.

If you open Atlantic and Compass in advance on your laptop, trying to be efficient by making sure it's all ready for when your victim arrives, it screws you over, the two do not link and you look a prat in front of the person who gave up their time to come and get it done to volunteer with the organisation.

I've sent it to the info centre to fix this obvious bug, but I don't hold out much hope. At least I know finally how to avoid it.

    But is it a bug?
From my point of view I saw it as a process.

You add a new adult to compass and follow the procedure though and at the end of that procedure you request a DBS. It follows that when you request one it takes you to Atlantic to log in and either do the DBS there and then or send an email to the applicant to select their documents at home.

If you already have Atlantic open it cannot refresh new data added and as the applicant is not on the system it would take time to update if done out of sequence. You cant do a DBS on someone who has not had one requested.

I only have had issues if the system crashed or doing one for someone with a forward dated role start date.

It's either a bug or a faulty process.

No of course not, but I'd expect after requesting a DBS on compass to be able to refresh Atlantic and find it there, regardless of whether I'd had Atantic open already or not.

I emailed the info desk though and - surprise - they agree with you and refuse to accept it's a bug. In fact, their response was quite kurt and obviously copied and pasted from the other people they've sent it to who have clearly run into the same thing.

For me it's not an issue because now I know how to avoid it, it won't happen again. But I wish they'd take things on board and make changes to fix little things like this to life easier for their members, because to have someone go to all the effort to come and bring their docs etc and not be able to do the CRB just because of this 'feature' is a joke.

I really struggle with the whole UI/UX of adding an adult and completing the DBS. It is horrid. To the point where I avoid it as much as possible.
