    collaboration tool

Does anyone out there know of a collaboration tool like Basecamp, slack, ryver, trello etc that dosnt cost the earth. I am looking for something that we can use with both YPs and parents to co ordinate projects, chat and fundraising between members from different districts across a wide phyical geographical area. I have been usng FB to do some of it but would like everything in one place and am experiencing increased objections to using social media platforms..

    thanks in advance

Discord is effectively a free version of slack, may be worth a look.

Trello is fairly cheap, and I expect Atlassian to keep it that way, so they can continue sell Jira as the "up market" version.....

Possibly a combination of discord, whatsapp and OSM?

In theory, as online versions for nonprofits appears to be free, how about Microsoft Teams?

You can have chat, meetings, also put people into teams groups that can have conversations, tasks lists, upload files.

Look like there is a mobile app for it.

As ever, I suspect the sticking point on any systems will be your disparate and wide range of IT skills. I.e. I have to use it for paid work, so I use it, and it's fine. You getting 100% take-up on anything will be slim I would wager.

Slack is/was free up to a certain level - 10k messages. Is that not enough?
Does anyone know what's going on?

Free Slack works very well for us at work.

Facebook for work is good for some offices

WhatsApp has revolutionised our scout group's comms

We've just set up Office 365 at work today - Microsoft Teams seems to be pretty good when combined with sharepoint etc. All free for non profits as well.

We use office 365 in the group as a non profit - dont use full functionality yet, but once we get used to it at work (myself and AGSL) we will be looking at how we can use the other features in the group.

I'm pretty sure that both Slack and Trello have free versions that for most people has more than enough features. I used both free for a good 3 or 4 years without any issues/complaints.

Our District are pushing O365 and Teams, but even as an IT person I find Teams a bit overly complicated and business-like compared with a FB group plus a Google drive.

I would like to adopt it in the Group, but given this I think it will be hard to get good takeup, which with a tool like that would render it near useless.

The trick is normally to adapt to what people are already using. That's why WhatsApp is so good.

If I had to adopt a new tool for a single purpose, that purpose had better be amazing.

Google apps works in scouting in small teams working to a specific purpose. ( A summer camp organising team, for example) but I wouldn't be able to get a whole group using it.

Hypothetical: if I were a jamboree unit leader and the unit ran on Trello or band or Facebook for work or whatever, I'd adapt.

I wouldn't do it just to find out the latest info about st George's Day!
