When you look at the calendar and realise summer camp is three weeks tomorrow.

And that there are only three adults going and there are no dates to meet up. The other two have been to the site before and are working on the previous program. But I am missing bits that make the picture clear. I keep thinking I trust them. It will be OK.

Yep. "we'll do one of these three things on these three days depending on the weather, probably" - that's the programme planned right? And the day marked "beach", that's all planned then yes?
Also yep. We've got a parents/kids/leaders meeting on the 11th, we'll not be meeting up before. Still, that's three weekends right? I mean, apart from Sunday when I'm off to Tankfest, next weekend is Gilwell24, though I guess the three of us that are doing Gilwell and summer camp will have plenty of time at Gilwell to sort through any remaining stuff to do.
Anyway, the Explorers love it when we (look like we) wing it!

If youre going camping and are not sure that everyhting is where it should be, ie what poles go with what tent, ie you think they have been mixed up, why not have a tent pitching practice night before the camp itself?
As for the pre camp checks, going through the stores and realising that some items are missing/damaged and need replacing - We've currently got a table issue, two tables have vanished and we still need another 4, compunded by the fact that the canvas tent shop wants £60 postage and packing for the order
I have woken up this morning with the same feeling! Spent the last couple of weeks sorting out the contents of my nan's house. Had a weekend chill out whilst my group were sailing with another leader and now my focus is switching to camp. It's not as if we haven't known the date since October last year!
Yep we just had our 85th Anniversary Group Camp last weekend and now I realise I am so not organised for Summer Camp, I just hope the couple of external activities I want to book can accomodate us at some point during the week.

I'm so glad it's not just me. Ours is now less than 2 weeks away. I have a shiny new NAP; I've helped organise plenty of camps before but this one is on me. A great team around me though who'll catch anything I miss. Won't they?
Hello?
ianw (10-07-2018)
My days of organising Summer Troop camp are (sadly) behind me, and I read this thread with a tear in my eye. Some 47 years after leaving my Scout Troop (7th Romford sadly long closed) it is the summer camps that I remember, not the weekly meetings; I hope your Scouts will be the same.
During my time organising Troop camp I had my minor disasters, like heat exhaustion on a mid Wales hike (thank you to the local DC who helped return the lad to us), a boy with a fish hook through his hand (hidden in seaweed on a south Devon beach), Scouts trying to buy topshelf material in a Welsh supermarket (while in Uniform; they did enjoy cleaning the mini bus as a punishment!)
I wish you all a great camp!

One week to go, well just under 1 week, this time next week we will be at Tolmers.
One final Scout meeting left, a trip out to the local dry ski center for snow tubes and tobogganing, and thats it
