    Patrol tents from Go Outdoors

We were at Scoutfest today, and Go Outdoors had a stand.

They had cheap (£34) Dutch ovens, and also patrol tents.

The patrol tents seems pretty good quality - 450 gsm canvas, 14' x 14' and only £511 each (with discounts for more than one).

The woman said they were made by a company which specialises in fishing equipment - think it began with a P, Pethricks/Petridge or something.

Has anyone any thoughts on quality - as I say, apart from metal poles, they seemed pretty sound. But I'm a bit nervous moving away from Blacks!

    thanks,
    Nathan

    Robens prospectors? https://m.gooutdoors.co.uk/robens-pr...r-tent-p400707

our group uses the Klondike. Reasonably hard wearing, benefit of polycotton, weighty, but certainly lighter and less robust than Icelandic’s

Thanks for the reply - itís taken me until today to work out how to add a pic of the spec. (and Iím still not sure Iíve cracked it!).

As you can hopefully see, it is very like an Icelandic, albeit a lot wider.

Has anyone got any experience of these?

That looks very similar to the Canvas Tent Shop’s scouting patrol tents, with that peak at the front. https://www.canvastentshop.co.uk/pro...trol-tent.aspx. In fact I think they are reselling for the Cnvas Tent Shop! But note that the prices are better on their own website - £410 for the Scout green canvas tent, £499 with wooden poles. That should hopefully widen your pool of people with experience of the build quality. Unfortunately I’ve not used that particular company though I like the spec of their dining shelters, simpler than the BCT equivalents.

It's basically the old 160lb 14x14 foot army tent.

There was a group with a bunch of these (or at least something extremely similar) camping next to us over the summer. All I can say is that, unlike a great many of the other tents being used (several of which I repaired or extracted from trees), they dealt with the ridiculous winds without any problems whatsoever.

Thatís really useful; thanks everyone. Good to know their wind properties.

I hadnít made the link with the 160lb tents - but they do look very similar. Although the canvas on these isnít four inches thick!
